研究室は水郷として有名な潮来(いたこ)の北浦湖畔に位置する茨城大学広域水圏センター内にあります。センターでは,卒論・修論・博論研究を行う学生,教育・研究目的で施設を利用したい方々を,学内外から広く募集しています。水圏フィールドには,未知のテーマがまだいくらでもあるはず。ワクワクしながら研究やフィールド゙体験がしたい方,いつでもお気軽にいらしてください。

In order to promote a better understanding of conservation requirements for the fish habitat, the fish fauna of emergent plant zones was investigated by quantitative fyke-net sampling, with measurements of environmental properties, at 19 sites in seven lakes and three ponds in the lower Tone River system, eastern Japan in June and August 2017. A total of 27 and 34 species, including commercially important and threatened species, were collected in June and August, respectively. A cluster analysis based on species composition at each site in each month showed that the fish assemblage was divided into three groups: six medium and large-sized lakes, a small lake and pond on the floodplain, and ponds in the hilly areas. The differences in species composition among the groups were partly related to different elevation, impacts of downstream weirs, and occurrence of introduced piscivorous species. In addition, analyses of the relationships between fyke net catches of eight abundant fishes and environmental variables at each site in the medium and large lakes at lower elevation (< 5 m) in each month, using a generalized linear mixed model, indicated that wave height and mud content in sediments, as well as emergent vegetation size, were significant determinants of abundance of most species. Accordingly, deliberate conservation and rehabilitation of emergent plant zones, taking such essential information into consideration, should be included in future conservation plans for fish habitats in the Tone River system., The Ichthyological Society of Japan

FURUHATA RYOICHI; TOKORO FUMITAKA; NEMOTO TAKAO; KANOU KOUKI, Last,In order to clarify predatory impacts on fyke-net catches by invasive channel catfish, the stomach contents of 176 specimens (4.6-57.6 cm in standard length, SL), collected with a large fyke-net in Lake Kasumigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan between afternoon and the next morning once a month from June to August 2016 and from March to August 2017, were examined. Major food items of the catfish comprised undigested important fisheries species, such as Hypomesus nipponensis, Salangichthys microdon, Gymnogobius urotaenia and Macrobrachium nipponense, frequently occurring also in the fyke-net catches. Mean stomach fullness index in each size class larger than 20 cm SL was extremely high (6.7-8.8) compared to those in the natural environment. It is therefore highly possible that individuals larger than 20 cm SL ate small fishes and shrimp in the fyke-net. The estimated proportion of predation on each species by the catfish in the fyke-net throughout the study period was 73.7%, 80.1%, 36.6% and 33.3% for H. nipponensis, S. microdon, G. urotaenia and M. nipponense entering the net, respectively. Thus, predation by the catfish on important fisheries species inside the fyke-net was considered to be a major problem in local lake fisheries.

Kimura Masashi; Yamaguchi Masaaki; Omori Kensaku; Yamazaki Kazuya; Kaneko Seiya; Kanou Kouki, Last,Invasion status of an invasive alien species, Micropterus dolomieu, was ex- amined in the main stream and its tributary (Iida River and Lake Kasama) of the Hinuma River system upstream of Lake Hinuma, a Ramser site in Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan. A total of 228 individuals (6.3–295 mm in body length) including adult and larvae of this species were collected at seven sites immediately downstream of the tributary from June to September in both 2019 and 2020. A spawning nest with larvae and an adult was found at one site in the main river in June 2019. These results suggest that Micropterus dolomieu have expanded their distribution by continuing to reproduce within the river system.

山崎和哉; 平山拓弥; 加納光樹, The channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, introduced from North America has caused severe damages to local fisheries in rivers and lakes of Japan. To clarify seasonal occurrence and habitat use of juveniles of the catfish in a Japanese lake, quantitative sampling with a small seine net was conducted in the littoral zone of Lake Kasumigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan during nighttime from May to November 2016. A total of 417 juveniles (16-97 mm in standard length, SL) were collected around offshore breakwaters, constructed from numerous rectangular gabions, from May to October with much higher abundance in August. The mode of the length-frequency distribution increased gradually from 24-36 mm SL in July to 60-64 mm SL in September, indicating their stay and growth around offshore breakwaters during summer. The juvenile density was significantly higher in offshore breakwater areas with sandy bottom than in reed belt areas with sandy-muddy bottom. Possible reasons for aggregations of juveniles to offshore breakwater areas would include to use gabions as shelter or to prefer to slow flow areas characterized by sandy bottom, as has already reported in rivers in North America., Japanese Society for Aquaculture Science

Kurokura, Morphological characteristics of three gobiid Pseudogobius species (P. javanicus, P. sp. 1 and P. sp. 2) in their juvenile phases which collected in Sikao Creek, a mangrove estuary located in southern Thailand were described. Juveniles of them were distinguished from each other by the following characters: P. sp. 1 (n = 59, 7.4.13.3 mm SL) with two distinctive large blotches located on dorsal and ventral sides symmetrically of caudal fi n base; P. sp. 2 (n = 13,6.7.12.0 mm SL), with three blotches on caudal fi n base; and P. javanicus (n = 18, 6.5.11.8mm SL) with two distinctive large blotches on caudal fi n base in asymmetrical, upper one close to the lateral midline of body. All of these Pseudogobius individuals were collected within creek, mainly at middle reach, whereas no individuals from the marine area off the creek mouth, suggesting that these species spend most of their life within the estuarine habitat., Shimane University
