Clinical Instruction in Modern Medical Education ―Establishment of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine―今泉 友里, By the late 19th century, great advances had been made in medical education in the United States. One of the turning points was the establishment of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the professors who were both practitioners and researchers taught medical students. The purpose of this study is to investigate how this teaching system, known as clinical instruction, was planned and implemented in these institutes, which pursued advanced education and research. In addition to the first president of the Johns Hopkins University, D. C. Gillman. There were 3 people who had key roles. They supported the establishment of the School of Medicine and the Hospital and its clinical instruction in different ways. Their writings show that they believed that the hospital provided an effective way not only to provide medical education but also to acquire scientific knowledge., 東京大学大学院教育学研究科
