SEKI Yusaku, テキストのレイアウトが, 読み手の内容理解に与える影響を調べた.具体的には, レイアウト手法としての箇条書と, キーワードの強調をとりあげ, それらが内容理解に対して, どのような影響をもつか, 実験により調べた.実験では, 箇条書とキーワード強調の有無で, レイアウトにちがいをもたせたテキストを, 別々の被験者群に読んでもらい, 再生テストにより, 内容の把握を比較した.その結果, キーワードの強調は強調内容の再生を高め, また, 箇条書は, それ以外の内容についての再生を高めることがわかった.つまり, 内容上のポイントを強調すること, 箇条書で文章構造を明確にすることの有効性が, それぞれ確認できた., Japan Society for Educational Technology
Japan Journal of Educational Technology, 1997 - Effects of Paragraphing Text on Reader Comprehension
SEKI Yusaku; AKAHORI Kanji, This study investigated the effects of paragraphing text on reader comprehension. In the experiment, three different types of paragraphing for the same text were compared : correctly paragraphed text, misparagraphed text, and unparagraphed text. Subjects' recall of text content indicated that the correctly paragraphed text was best, and unparagraphed text was worst, both on total recall and on main-idea recall. The results suggest that correct paragraphing facilitated readers' employment of such reading strategies as : 1) organizing ideas of each paragraph and identifying its main point ; 2) understanding text structure based on the relation among paragraphs. These strategies were considered to have led readers to better comprehension of the text., Japan Society for Educational Technology

SEKI Yusaku; AKAHORI Kanji, This study investigated the effects of presenting lists upon reader's understanding of textual information. For the experiment, subjects were asked to read one of two types of printed text : (1) an itemized list, or (2) items imbedded within a paragraph. This was followed by a content recall test. Test results indicated that, in relation to reader understanding of the items, presenting itemized lists was superior to imbedding. However, order of recall was closer to the original for imbedded text than it was for itemized lists. This suggests that the presentation of lists not only gives readers advance information about the structure of the text, it also gives them easier and freer access to each item ; thus facilitating their own organization and learning of the content., Japan Society for Educational Technology
