2018 Joint Symposia on Optics, 2018, [Reviewed] - Image Encryption Based on Phase Decomposition Technique
Katsuhiro Uno; Hoang Hoa Tien Dung, Novel technique for image encryption, which is based on a phase decomposition of the optical wave, and for decryption with an interferometric technique, was proposed. The phase decomposition was successfully performed by splitting pixel brightness into two vectors with random phases. The two encrypted images have, constant amplitude and purely random phase, so that no one could see existence of the image. The hidden image was recovered by superposing and interfering with the two encrypted images. The decrypted image was exactly the same as the original with no noise. Our technique was applicable not only to binary images but also to grayscale images. We confirmed our technique by the computer simulation., Institute of Industrial Applications Engineers

Katsuhiro Uno; Hoang Hoa Tien Dung, Novel techniques for image encryption, which is based on a phase decomposition of the complex amplitude, and for ecryption with an interferometry were proposed. The phase decomposition was successfully performed by retarding or progressing the random phase along the pixel brightness information of the image that should be encrypted. The obtained images that were encrypted were purely random phase images with constant amplitude, so that no one could see the meaning of the image. The hidden image could be recovered only by the interferometric technique. The decrypted image was exactly the same image as the original one without any noise. Our technique can be applied not only to binary images but also to grayscale images. We confirmed our technique in the computer simulation., The Institute of Industrial Applications Engineers

Katsuhiro Uno; Isao Shimizu, A dual focus property and an extended depth of focus were verified by a new type of diffractive lens displaying on liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) devices. This type of lens is useful to read information on multilayer optical discs and tilted discs. The radial undulation of the phase groove on the diffractive lens gave the dual focus nature. The focal extension was performed by combining the dual focus lens with the axilens that was invented for expanding the depth of focus. The number of undulations did not affect the intensity along the optical axis but the central spot of the diffraction pattern. (C) 2014 The Japan Society of Applied Physics, OPTICAL SOC JAPAN
OPTICAL REVIEW, Sep. 2014, [Reviewed] - Optical Detection of Mechanically Damaged Areas on Manufactured Metal Parts by Spatial Frequency Filtering
Katsuhiro Uno; Takemune Kihou, An inspection of mechanically damaged areas on manufactured metal parts is necessary to produce high-quality products. A scanning probe on a sample is necessary for a conventional surface inspection system, which is time-consuming. We propose a novel high-speed detection method for defects on metal surfaces with rolling indentations. To obtain a large field of view in a measurement, we used a laser sheet that was expanded with a laser line generator and also used an expanded collimated beam, rather than a small laser spot as used in conventional techniques. Furthermore, we used an obliquely incident laser beam to suppress the effect of the rolling indentations surrounding defects, and also applied spatial frequency filtering to extract only defects. The spatial frequency filtering under oblique incidence is theoretically explained and defect extraction was investigated in experiments. OPTICAL REVIEW, May 2014, [Reviewed] - Rotation- and Size-Invariant Object Identification System Using the Liquid Crystal on Silicon Device
Katsuhiro Uno; Yuta Kamikozawa; Isao Shimizu, We propose a shape discrimination technique using the optical matched spatial filter, which gives an identical result against randomly scattered objects of the same shape but different rotation and scale change. The main idea in this study is to apply optical coordinate transformation, which transforms rotation and scale change including a linear shift into translation, not to the objects themselves but to their Fourier spectra. Thus, rotation and scale change as well as the linear shift can be processed with the same optical matched spatial filter. In addition, we built a two-wavelength system for simultaneous processing of the optical matched spatial filter and optical coordinate transformation. In this system, both Fourier transform and the coordinate transformation were implemented merely by displaying computer-generated holograms (CGH) on the liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) devices, resulting in a compact lensless system. International Conference on Optics-photonics Design & Fabrication, Mar. 2014, [Reviewed] - Estimation of the laser beam enabling rectangular processing by the inverse diffraction theory
Katsuhiro Uno; Ryo Nishikawa; Shigeru Tachikawa, A small rectangular laser spot has been widely studied for laser processing and laser repair technology. It is usually made by converging the input beam with the lens. Faithful reproduction of the laser spot is dependent on NA of the imaging lens. The small rectangular spot can be obtained by high NA lens, which is limited by many factors, such as high energy loss due to the reflection on the surface, large mass and volume, and strong sensitivity to aberrations and misalignment. On the other hand, the beam cannot be faithfully reproduced because of the diffraction with the low NA lens which has no such the limitations. One of the alternative ways to produce small rectangular profiles by using the low NA lens system is to estimate the input beam profile leading to the output profile of the sharp rectangular shape.
Before estimation, we first defined spatially broad functions that did not contain high spatial frequencies and have sharp rectangular cross-sectional profile. Then, we calculated the input beam profiles leading to these functions by the inverse diffraction theory. We also confirmed that the quantization for realizable input beam profile could not much affect rectilinearity of the output beam. (C) 2013 Elsevier GmbH. Optical Review, 2014 - Influence of Ionomer/Carbon Ratio on the Performance of a Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell
Mika Eguchi; Koki Baba; Takamitsu Onuma; Kazuma Yoshida; Kenta Iwasawa; Yoshio Kobayashi; Katsuhiro Uno; Keishiro Komatsu; Maya Kobori; Mikka Nishitani-Gamo; Toshihiro Ando, We have used fibrous carbon materials as polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) electrodes. We have examined the influence of the ionomer/carbon ratio on the performance of the PEFCs. The Marimo carbon is a kind of carbon with a spherical shape, and consists of carbon nanofilaments. Fibrous carbon materials have large specific surface areas without fine pores. The reactant gases and generated water can easily diffuse among the nanofilaments. The ionomer plays two roles; one is a proton transfer activity, and the other is binding the catalyst electrodes. An excess ionomer interferes with the diffusion of gases. The ionomer/carbon ratio should affect the performance of the PEFC, especially at a high current density., MDPI AG

OPTICS COMMUNICATIONS, Apr. 2011, [Reviewed] - Characterization of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube-Supported Pt Catalyst Prepared by Metal Nanocolloidal Solution For a Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Catalyst
Mika Eguchi; Shun Yamamoto; Toshiaki Aoki; Mayuko Kikuchi; Katsuhiro Uno; Yoshio Kobayashi; Mikka Nishitani-Gamo and Toshihiro Ando, In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes were used as a carbon support. The support for the Pt catalyst was prepared by a convenient technique without the need for acid or heat treatment. Two different preparation methods utilizing a nanocolloidal solution were developed; i. e., method 1 and method 2, an improved method 1. In method 2, the colloidal solution was prepared by first adding the carbon. Based on the SEM and TEM observations, the Pt nanoparticles (5-20 nm) were adequately supported. It was found that the Pt nanoparticles were better supported by the high dispersion in method 2 compared to method 1. The Pt amounts in the Pt/MWCNT catalysts were 31.4 wt. % and 45.9 wt. % when using methods 1 and 2, respectively, based on the ICP-MS measurements. The peaks belonging to the Pt metal were confirmed by XRD measurements. The Pt specific surface area of the Pt/MWCNT calculated by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement results was greater than that of the commercially available Pt/Ketjen catalyst., The Surface Finishing Society of Japan

Mika Eguchi; Atsuhiko Okubo; Shun Yamamoto; Toshiaki Aoki; Mayuko Kikuchi; Katsuhiro Uno; Yoshio Kobayashi; Mikka Nishitani-Gamo and Toshihiro Ando, In this study, the support Pt catalyst was supported by a novel spherical carbon using a convenient technique. Two different preparation methods utilizing a nanocolloidal solution method without heat treatment were developed (methods 1 and 2). The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations showed that the Pt nanoparticles (particle size) were supported, with higher dispersion being achieved with method 2 than method 1. The peak of the Pt metal was confirmed from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement. Based on the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) measurements, Pt loading was 19.5 wt.% in method 1 and approximately 50 wt.% in method 2. The Pt specific surface area of the Pt/novel spherical carbon catalyst calculated from the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement result was larger than that of the commercially available Pt/Ketjen catalyst. These results indicated that the Pt nanoparticles were supported in high dispersion without heat treatment using novel spherical carbon as a carbon support. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The optimum Nafion content was 28 - 32 wt.% (0.76 mg/cm^2-- 0.95 mg/cm^2) for these conditions.,The effects on cell performance of Nafion® content in 1 mg/cm2 Pt with a Pt and carbon mixture containing 50 wt.% Pt (50 wt.%Pt/C-1 mgPt/cm2) catalyst layers were studied under several humidified operating conditions at 80°C and 1 atm. The optimum Nafion® content for these conditions was 28–32 wt.% (0.76–0.95 mg/cm2). The value obtained using the 50 wt.%Pt/C catalyst was compared with reported values obtained using 20 wt.%Pt/C or 20 wt.%PtCr/C catalyst. The catalyst layer’s activation polarization with insufficient Nafion® decreases concomitantly with increased humidity, but that of a layer with excessive Nafion® increases with increased humidity.

Kenta Iwasawa; Mika Eguchi; Katsuhiro Uno; Souichi Yabuki, In order to detect lactate, high sensitivity lactate sensor was completed by attaching lactate oxidase (LOD) to the hydrogen peroxide sensor. The hydrogen peroxide sensor was prepared as follows; poly(4-styrenesulfonate), peroxidase (POD), ferrocene and poly-L-lysine solutions were dropped on a glassy carbon electrode. After drying this electrode, LOD and glutaraldehyde solutions were dropped on the membrane to immobilize the enzyme. The electrode was immersed into a buffer solution (pH 6.5), and a potential of -0.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl was applied to detect the reduction current. Immediately after the addition Of L-lactate (10 mu M) to the test solution, the reductive current increased and reached a plateau within 20 s. The lower detection limit was 1 mu M (S/N = 3), and the ratio of the response for the interferent to that for L-lactate on the electrode was 0.18., ELECTROCHEMICAL SOC JAPAN

Satoru Ueda; Mika Eguchi; Katsuhiro Uno; Yasuyuki Tsutsumi; Naoya Ogawa, It has been reported that the direct dimethyl ether fuel cell (DDFC) that uses the Pt-Ru catalyst on the anode has a lower performance than that using the Pt catalyst on the anode at ordinary temperature and pressure. We investigated the performance of the DDFC in detail using a cell equipped with a reference electrode. The anode performance of the Pt-Ru catalyst was higher than that of the Pt catalyst at current densities lower than 100 mA/cm(2) and was affected by the steam in the low potential region. The performance of the cell was improved with the anode bubbler and increased temperature. Moreover, it has been understood that an increase in the water content does not lower the resistance of the cell, but reduces the resistance by the reaction process based on the result of the impedance measurement. Proceedings of The Electrochemical Society, 2004, [Reviewed] - Multi-Wavelength Holographic Interferometry Using the White-Light Laser
K UNO; K SARUTA; N YOSHIDA; M SUZUKI; Y TOKITA and K FUJII, The interferogram of an inclined plate illuminated by a white-light laser was obtained by computer simulation and experiment. In the simulation, the interference fringe is related to the displacement of the object. We verify some advantages of multi-wavelength holographic interferometry over the conventional holographic interferometers which use a single wavelength. We also show some limitations of the detectable displacement range for practical measurement. In the simulation, color variations of the interferogram are related to the displacement of the object. In the experiment, we obtained an interference fringe that has almost the same appearance as the simulated one., INST PURE APPLIED PHYSICS

The width of the lasing pulse broadened by 220% and the peak value increased by 180%. Applied Physics Letters, 2002, [Reviewed] - Experimental Analysis of Classical Arago Point with White-Light Laser
K Uno; M Suzuki; K Fujii, The Arago point is a bright spot that appears at the center portion of the shadow of an obstacle such as a ball or a disk as the result of diffraction. Using this Arago point,,ve can judge the sphericity of a ball and the circularity of a disk, but it is difficult to distinguish the ball or the disk. To solve this problem, it is also necessary to observe the z coordinate component. As a method for doing this, we rotated the disk and observed its diffraction pattern as a function of the rotation angle. By employing the white-light laser as the light source and a three charge coupled device (3-CCD) camera as the detector, we have observed novel phenomena, for instance the deformation of the Arago point and the distortion of the circular fringes. Also, the color (wavelength) dependence of the diffraction angle could be directly understood in a visible sense., INST PURE APPLIED PHYSICS

From the angular variation of the FMR signal, magnetic parameters have been determined as uniaxial anisotropy constant K-u = 4.17 x 10(3) J/m(3), cubic anisotropy constant K-1 = -6.7 x 10(2) J/m(3), and gyromagnetic ratio gamma/2 pi = 23.9 GHz/T. Besides the usual FMR signal, anomalous-shaped features have been observed in the range 100-150 mT. The occurring fields of the features do not depend on the microwave frequency employed. The features always appear at the characteristic fields of the magnetization process such as the saturation-complete field under increasing field and the saturation-breakdown held under decreasing field. Faraday rotation measurements were also made to confirm the coincidence between the characteristic fields of the magnetization curve and the anomalous FMR features. These results establish that the anomalous features reflect the magnetization process of the sample. Such features so far have not been known. The origin of the anomalous features is also considered. Journal of Applied Physics, 1998, [Reviewed] - Correlation properties of speckles produced by diffractal-illuminated diffusers
K Uno; J Uozumi; T Asakura, Correlation properties are investigated theoretically for the field scattered by a rough surface which is illuminated by a diffractal produced in the Fraunhofer diffraction region of a random fractal object. In this configuration, the diffractal illuminating the rough surface has a power-law average intensity distribution with a saturated finite value at the center. The second scattering by the rough surface produces another speckle pattern in its Fraunhofer diffraction region. It is shown that the resultant speckled speckles are described by an intensity correlation function expressed by the modified Bessel function. This correlation function approaches a power function for small values of the argument, provided that the fractal dimension of the fractal object is between 1 and 2. Hence, the resultant speckle intensity distribution is considered to be fractal., ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV
Optics Communications, 1996, [Reviewed] - Contrast enhancement of Gaussian speckles produced by centro-symmetrical objects
K Uno; J Uozumi; T Asakura, It is well known that the contrast of Gaussian speckles produced under ordinary optical configurations is at most 1. It is also known, however, that under some special situations even Gaussian speckles can have contrast values higher than 1. As an example of such a situation, this paper discusses the first-order statistics of speckle patterns produced in the Fraunhofer region of objects having centrosymmetrical structures. The first-order statistics of Gaussian speckles is first reviewed with special emphasis on the optical conditions which produce the contrast enhancement. Enhanced contrast and the intensity) distributions which deviate from the negative exponential density are elucidated theoretically in the case of speckles produced by random objects containing centrosymmetrical structures. Some experimental verifications are also given for the speckle patterns produced by randomly distributed circular apertures containing some symmetrical pairs., TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD LONDON
Journal of Modern Optics, 1995, [Reviewed] - Statistics of Gaussian speckles with enhanced fluctuations
J Uozumi; K Uno; T Asakura, Some first-order statistics of speckle fields obeying the complex Gaussian probability density are investigated with the special emphasis on a possibility for the speckle contrast to exceed unity. It is shown that such enhanced fluctuations of speckle fields are generated when the probability density of the complex amplitude is non-circular with the vanishing mean. This means that Gaussian speckles having the contrast of unity are not necessarily fully developed speckles. Some practical situations producing such enhanced fluctuations in speckle fields are discussed., OPTICAL SOC JAPAN
Optical Review, 1995, [Reviewed] - Texture analysis of speckles due to random Koch fractals by lacunarity
K Uno; J Uozumi; T Asakura, We analyzed the textures of speckles produced from random Koch fractals to quantitatively confirm the existence of speckle clustering which we investigated in a previous paper. The texture analysis involved using the lacunarity of these speckles, which is defined as fluctuations of the intensity integrated within a box, and comparing this quantity with that for ordinary fully-developed speckles. The lacunarity of clustered speckles was found to be greater than that of ordinary speckles throughout the whole range of the size of the box under examination, indicating the existence of long correlation tails in speckles. We also discuss the physical origin of these long correlation tails., IOP PUBLISHING LTD
Waves in Random Media, 1995, [Reviewed] - Speckle clustering in diffraction patterns of random objects under ring-slit illumination
K Uno; J Uozumi; T Asakura, Some optical conditions are discussed for producing speckle patterns having long intensity correlations in the diffraction geometry. A random rough surfaces under illumination of coherent light with a circular ring slit produces the speckles with a zero-order Bessel function for the intensity correlation when observed in the Fraunhofer diffraction region. This function has relatively long oscillating tails and, consequently, string or network structures appear in speckle patterns, which we may call speckle clustering. This clustering phenomenon can explain the similar appearance observed in diffraction patterns produced by random Koch fractals., ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV
