- 〔主要な業績〕Precise control of a strong X-Y coupling beam transportation for J-PARC muon g-2/EDM experiment
H. Iinuma, 筆頭著者, To explore the beyond standard model of elementary physics, we proceed a new fundamental physics experiment, J-PARC muon g-2/EDM experiment. To realize very precise measurement of the muon spin precession frequency in the level of sub-ppm, a relativistic energy of muon beam is injected into a precisely adjusted storage magnet of sub-ppm uniformity by applying medical MRI magnet technologies. Three-dimensional spiral beam injection scheme is intended to storage in 0.66 m diameter compact ring, we have carefully studied of a spatial distribution of a radial magnetic field of the storage magnet and required beam phase space, especially for a strong X-Y coupling. In this presentation, we will discuss about a strategy to precise control of the X-Y coupling at the beam transport line: how to detect X-Y coupling from a beam phase space, how to control X-Y coupling with eight independent rotatable quadrupole magnets. We also discuss about how to apply fine-tuning of the beam trajectory without disturbing the magnetic field in the beam storage volume, by use of active shield multipole coils. Finally, we will report detailed studies of X-Y control at a demonstration beam line in KEK which proves the three-dimensional injection scheme is realistic one, as well as further challenges towards the original beam line at J-PARC.
14th International Particle Accelerator Conference, 2023年05月07日, [査読有り] - 〔主要な業績〕Demonstration of Three-dimensional Spiral Injection for the J-PARC Muon g-2/EDM Experiment

Matsushita, ラスト(シニア)オーサー, In the J-PARC Muon g-2/EDM experiment, to measure muon g-2 and EDM, it is necessary to accumulate 300 MeV/c muon beams with a 66 cm diameter region with a 3 T solenoid-type magnetic field. A new three-dimensional spiral injection scheme has been invented to achieve this target. Since this is the first instance to employ this injection scheme, a scale-down experiment with an electron beam of 297 keV/c and storage beam diameter of 24 cm is established at KEK. A simplified storage beam monitor using scintillating fiber has been designed and fabricated to measure the stored beam. The 100 nanosecond width pulsed beam is injected and observed a few microsecond signals by stored beam monitor. According to this result, the beam storage is confirmed. And the recent result shows that the stored beam deviated from the design orbit and caused betatron oscillations. To measure the beam deviation quantitatively and tune the beam, the storage monitor has been updated. The data from this stored beam monitor are the primary data for considering the conceptual design of the beam monitor for the Muon g-2/EDM experiment. This talk will discuss the measurement of beam storage by three-dimensional spiral injection and beam tuning using a scintillating fiber monitor.

Yasuda, A muon linac is under development for the precise measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) and electric dipole moment (EDM) with a reaccelerated thermal muon beam. An H− source driven by an ultraviolet light has been developed for the muon acceleration experiment. Prior to the acceleration experiment, a beamline commissioning was performed using this H− beam, since the accelerated muon intensity is very low. We successfully measured the magnetic rigidity, which is essential for identifying the accelerated muons. This H− source is capable of utilizing as a general-purpose beam source for other beamline., ELSEVIER

This paper introduces a new approach to measure the muon magnetic moment anomaly aμ = (g - 2)/2 and the muon electric dipole moment (EDM) dμ at the J-PARC muon facility. The goal of our experiment is to measure aμ and dμ using an independent method with a factor of 10 lower muon momentum, and a factor of 20 smaller diameter storage-ring solenoid compared with previous and ongoing muon g - 2 experiments with unprecedented quality of the storage magnetic field. Additional significant differences from the present experimental method include a factor of 1000 smaller transverse emittance of the muon beam (reaccelerated thermal muon beam), its efficient vertical injection into the solenoid, and tracking each decay positron from muon decay to obtain its momentum vector. The precision goal for aμ is a statistical uncertainty of 450 parts per billion (ppb), similar to the present experimental uncertainty, and a systematic uncertainty less than 70 ppb. Negative muonium atoms (Mu-), which are bound states of positive muons (μ+) and two electrons, are generated from μ+'s through the electron capture process in an aluminum degrader. The generated Mu-'s are initially electrostatically accelerated and injected into a radio-frequency quadrupole linac (RFQ). In the RFQ, the Mu-'s are accelerated to 89 keV. The accelerated Mu-'s are identified by momentum measurement and time of flight. This compact muon linac opens the door to various muon accelerator applications including particle physics measurements and the construction of a transmission muon microscope., APS Physics

Nakayama, A magnetic field design method of magneto-motive force (coil block (CB) and iron yoke) placements for g−2/EDM measurements has been developed and a candidate placements were designed under superconducting limitations of current density 125 A/mm2 and maximum magnetic field on CBs less than 5.5 T. Placements of CBs and an iron yoke with poles were determined by tuning SVD (singular value decomposition) eigenmode strengths. The SVD was applied on a response matrix from magneto-motive forces to the magnetic fields in the muon storage region and two-dimensional (2D) placements of magneto-motive forces were designed by tuning the magnetic field eigenmode strengths obtained by the magnetic field. The tuning was performed iteratively. Magnetic field ripples in the azimuthal direction were minimized for the design. The candidate magnetic design had five CBs and an iron yoke with center iron poles. The magnet satisfied specifications of homogeneity (0.2 ppm peak-to-peak in 2D placements (the cylindrical coordinate of the radial position R and axial position Z) and less than 1.0 ppm ripples in the ring muon storage volume (0.318 m <

A new planned muon g−2/EDM experiment at J-PARC aims to measure g−2 to a factor of 5 better statistical precision and a factor of 100 better sensitivity for the electric dipole moment (EDM) measurement compared to previous experiments. The J-PARC experiment will use a 3-T MRI solenoid magnet as the muon storage ring with a 0.66 m diameter to achieve a 1-ppm level of local uniformity. The previous g−2 injection scheme is not applicable for beam injection into a small ring. The new scheme provides a smooth injection utilizing a radial solenoidal fringe field, without causing an error field in the storage volume. The expected storage efficiency is 80% and over, which is to be compared to 3.5% for the previous g−2 experiment. In addition, the ability to control the storage plane is important for the EDM measurement. Adare; Colorado, We present midrapidity charged-pion invariant cross sections, the ratio of the pi(-) to pi(+) cross sections and the charge-separated double-spin asymmetries in polarized p + p collisions at root s = p + 200 GeV. While the cross section measurements are consistent within the errors of next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative quantum chromodynamics predictions (pQCD), the same calculations overestimate the ratio of the charged-pion cross sections. This discrepancy arises from the cancellation of the substantial systematic errors associated with the NLO-pQCD predictions in the ratio and highlights the constraints these data will place on flavor-dependent pion fragmentation functions. The charge-separated pion asymmetries presented here sample an x range of similar to 0.03-0.16 and provide unique information on the sign of the gluon-helicity distribution., AMER PHYSICAL SOC

Comparison of the pi(0) results with different theory expectations based on fits of other published data showed a preference for small positive values of gluon polarization, Delta G, in the proton in the probed Bjorken x range. The effect of adding the new 2009 pi(0) data to a recent global analysis of polarized scattering data is also shown, resulting in a best fit Delta G(DSSV)([0.05,0.2]) = 0.06(-0.15)(+0.11) in the range 0.05 < x < 0.2, with the uncertainty at Delta chi(2) = 9 when considering only statistical experimental uncertainties. Shifting the PHENIX data points by their systematic uncertainty leads to a variation of the best-fit value of Delta G(DSSV)([0.05,0.2]) between 0.02 and 0.12, demonstrating the need for full treatment of the experimental systematic uncertainties in future global analyses., AMER PHYSICAL SOC

One of the highlights of the polarized proton program performed at s=500GeV is that it affords the direct measurement of sea quark contribution to the proton spin via W-boson production through the measurement of the parity violating single spin asymmetry. A new trigger electronics system for forward muons, which is especially capable of W-boson detection, was developed for the PHENIX experiment. The trigger was installed as an additional electronic circuit, and it was connected in parallel with the existing cathode readout electronics of the muon tracking chamber. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Yoshida, Emission of muonium (μ +e-) atoms from silica aerogel into vacuum was observed. Characteristics of muonium emission were established from silica aerogel samples with densities in the range from 29 mg cm-3to 178 mg cm-3. Spectra of muonium decay times correlated with distances from the aerogel surfaces, which are sensitive to the speed distributions, and follow general features expected from a diffusion process, while small deviations from a simple roomtemperature thermal diffusion model are identified. The parameters of the diffusion process are deduced from the observed yields. © The Author(s) 2013.

The coil deformation by the coil winding, thermal contraction and hoop stress due to the magnetic force was also estimated. PHENIX Collaboration (A. Adare (Colorado U.) et al.), The double helicity asymmetry in neutral pion production for p(T) = 1 to 12 GeV/c was measured with the PHENIX experiment to access the gluon-spin contribution, Delta G, to the proton spin. Measured asymmetries are consistent with zero, and at a theory scale of mu 2 = 4 GeV2 a next to leading order QCD analysis gives Delta G([0.02,0.3]) = 0.2, with a constraint of -0.7 < Delta G([0.02,0.3]) < 0.5 at Delta chi(2) = 9 (similar to 3 sigma) for the sampled gluon momentum fraction (x) range, 0.02 to 0.3. The results are obtained using predictions for the measured asymmetries generated from four representative fits to polarized deep inelastic scattering data. We also consider the dependence of the Delta G constraint on the choice of the theoretical scale, a dominant uncertainty in these predictions., AMER PHYSICAL SOC

Saito, The H-dibaryon resonance was sought by a Lambda Lambda invariant mass spectrum that was obtained by the C-12 (K-,K+Lambda Lambda X) reactions. We observed a bump near the Lambda Lambda threshold, as reported by the previous experiment (KEK E224), with better statistics. Data were compared with results of a cascade model calculation including Lambda Lambda final state interactions consistent with the newly measured binding energy of He-6(Lambda Lambda). No significant enhancements above levels of the model predictions were observed. The resulting upper limit for the production cross section of the H with a mass range between the Lambda Lambda and Xi N threshold is found to be 2.1 +/- 0.6 (stat.) +/- 0.1 (syst.) mu b/sr at a 90% confidence level., AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOC

Zelenski, A precise measurement of the analyzing power A(N) in proton-proton elastic scattering in the region of 4-momentum transfer squared 0.001 < vertical bar t vertical bar < 0.032 (GeV/c)(2) has been performed using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the 100 GeV/c RHIC proton beam. The interference of the electromagnetic spin-flip amplitude with a hadronic spin-nonflip amplitude is predicted to generate a significant A(N) of 4-5%, peaking at -t similar or equal to 0.003 (GeV/c)(2). This kinematic region is known as the Coulomb nuclear interference region. A possible hadronic spin-flip amplitude modifies this calculable prediction. We present the first precise result of the CNI asymmetry and shape as a function of t. Our data are well described by the CNI prediction with the electromagnetic spin-flip alone and do not support the presence of a large hadronic spin-flip amplitude. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Equipped with two full Siberian snakes in each ring, polarization is preserved during acceleration from injection to 100 GeV. However, the intrinsic spin resonances beyond 100 GeV are about a factor of 2 stronger than those below 100 GeV making it important to examine the impact of these strong intrinsic spin resonances on polarization survival and the tolerance for vertical orbit distortions. Polarized protons were first accelerated to the record energy of 205 GeV in RHIC with a significant polarization measured at top energy in 2005. PHENIX Collaboration; S.S. Adler; ookha, We present a measurement of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry in inclusive pi(0) production in polarized proton-proton collisions at roots=200 GeV. The data were taken at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider with average beam polarizations of 0.27. The measurements are the first in a program to study the longitudinal spin structure of the proton, using strongly interacting probes, at collider energies. The asymmetry is presented for transverse momenta 1-5 GeV/c at midrapidity, where next-to-leading-order perturbative quantum chromodynamic (NLO pQCD) calculations well describe the unpolarized cross section. The observed asymmetry is small and is compared to a NLO pQCD calculation with a range of polarized gluon distributions., AMER PHYSICAL SOC
