Multiagent-Based Data Presentation Mechanism for Multifaceted Analysis in Network Management TasksKazuto Sasai; Ryota Fukutani; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, 筆頭著者, Although network management tasks are highly automated using big data and artificial intelligence technologies, when an unforeseen cybersecurity problem or fault scenario occurs, administrators sometimes directly analyze system data to make a heuristic decision. However, a wide variety of information is required to address complex cybersecurity risks, whereas current systems are focused on narrowing the candidates of information. In this study, we propose a multiagent-based data presentation mechanism (MADPM) that consists of agents operating data-processing tools that store and analyze network data. Agents in MADPM interact with other agents to form data-processing sequences. In this process, we design not only the composition of the sequence according to requirements, but also a mechanism to expand it to enable multifaceted analysis that supports heuristic reasoning. We tested five case studies in the prototype system implemented in an experimental network. The results indicated that the multifaceted presentation of data can support administrators more than the selected single-faceted optimal presentation. The final outcome of our proposed approach is the provision of a multifaceted and cross-system data presentation for heuristic inference in network management tasks., MDPI AG

Effect of Hidden Vector on the Speech of PRVATetsuya MatsuiIori TaniKazuto SasaiYukio-Pegio Gunji, This study aimed to propose a novel method for designing a product recommendation virtual agent (PRVA) that can keep users motivated to interact with the agent. In prior papers, many methods of keeping users motivated postulated real-time and multi-modal interactions. The proposed novel method can be used in one-direction interaction. We defined the notion of the “hidden vector,” that is, information that is not mentioned by a PRVA and that the user can suppose spontaneously. We conducted an experiment to verify the hypothesis that PRVAs having a hidden vector are more effective than other PRVAs. As a result, it was shown that PRVAs having a hidden vector were perceived as being more persuasive than other PRVAs and strongly motivated the users to use the PRVAs. From these results, the proposed method was shown to be effective., Frontiers Media SA

[査読有り] Asynchronous time–space model for evolutionary marketKazuto Sasai, An economic system is thought to be evolutionary growing. Economists investigate human decision-making by monetary value. However, the emergent property of the economy has not been explained. A model considering the extent of the monetary value is required. In this paper, a time–space model is proposed to elucidate the economic evolution of a market. Since the market activities are always open and realtime, the model of time and space is complicated. For the complexity, the probabilistic boundary and expectations under a low-possibility are introduced. Then, time and space cannot be separated and are defined as an asynchronous relationship. We apply this time–space model to the adaptive agent models of single and double auctions. The results of the numerical simulation indicate the intermittency in a broad area of the control parameter. This result concludes that the extent of monetary value can be a basis of the evolutionary market., Elsevier

Clustering Malicious DNS Queries for Blacklist-Based DetectionAkihiro Satoh; Yutaka Nakamura; Daiki Nobayashi; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Takeshi Ikenaga, Some of the most serious threats to network security involve malware. One common way to detect malware-infected machines in a network is by monitoring communications based on blacklists. However, such detection is problematic because (1) no blacklist is completely reliable, and (2) blacklists do not provide the sufficient evidence to allow administrators to determine the validity and accuracy of the detection results. In this paper, we propose a malicious DNS query clustering approach for blacklist-based detection. Unlike conventional classification, our cause-based classification can efficiently analyze malware communications, allowing infected machines in the network to be addressed swiftly.

To keep the safety and security of the network systems, the advances of analysis method for various network data is required for the practical problem-solving. Although many IT tools to support the data analysis works in network management, it is not enough for adaptation to developing environment. Also, the solutions do not consider the knowledge variety of users. In this paper, we propose an agent-based approach for data presentation to support the analysis from multiple aspects in network management works. Concretely, we design the self-organized analysis procedure based on the cooperation among agents and the interactive requirement estimation mechanism to improve the support functions for the diverse of the users’ knowledge. Proactive Service Management in Disaster Recovery Phase with Non-destructive Benchmarking Technique
Yusuke Tanimura; Kazuto Sasai; Tetsuo Kinoshita, In this paper, we introduce a network management system for autonomous service management that can be effectively utilized in emergency situations. In order to alleviate the problem of a shortage of human resources in disaster situations, approaches for autonomous service management are helpful. Such approaches require knowledge of maximum load capacity of managed server systems so that a benchmark test should be conducted to acquire knowledge. However, in a disaster recovery phase, a configuration of the server system changes frequently due to the occurrence of the secondary disaster or fluctuating user demand. Therefore, a benchmark technique should be established that can be applied even to running server systems. In our proposal, we describe a non-destructive benchmarking technique that can acquire knowledge of the maximum load capacity of the server system without imposing heavy load. A prototype system based on our proposal is designed and implemented for experiments. The results of the experiments confirm that the proposed system can stably operate a service by proactively controlling the amount of computing resource of the server system.

Characterization of the Imaged R/S Pox Diagram for Low-rate DoS Attack
Akinori TAKAHASHI; Ryuji IGARASHI; Kazuto SASAI; Hiroshi UEDA; Yukio IWAYA; Tetsuo KINOSHITA; Masashi HASHIMOTO, A low-rate denial of service (LDoS) attack can degrade the quality of TCP communication with fewer attack traffic. The LDoS attack transmits such network traffic that conforms to the minimum value of TCP retransmission timeout. This provides periodic features to the traffic concerned. We consider the application of an R/S Pox Diagram characteristic which can represent the LDoS attack periodicity. An R/S Pox Diagram shows a characteristic plot shape against the periodicity of the LDoS attack. The distinct shape of the plot is quantified as shape features of the two-dimensionally imaged R/S Pox Diagram. Our proposal in this paper is to positively make use of the shape features of the two-dimensionally imaged R/S Pox Diagram. We show the effectiveness of the shape features utilization by showing their detection performance to pieces of simulating LDoS attack.

Analysis of the Macroscopic Behavior of Server Systems in the Internet EnvironmentYusuke Tanimura; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, Elasticity is one of the key features of cloud-hosted services built on virtualization technology. To utilize the elasticity of cloud environments, administrators should accurately capture the operational status of server systems, which changes constantly according to service requests incoming irregularly. However, it is difficult to detect and avoid in advance that operating services are falling into an undesirable state. In this paper, we focus on the management of server systems that include cloud systems, and propose a new method for detecting the sign of undesirable scenarios before the system becomes overloaded as a result of various causes. In this method, a measure that utilizes the fluctuation of the macroscopic operational state observed in the server system is introduced. The proposed measure has the property of drastically increasing before the server system is in an undesirable state. Using the proposed measure, we realize a function to detect that the server system is falling into an overload scenario, and we demonstrate its effectiveness through experiments., MDPI AG

[査読有り] Intermittent Behavior Induced by Asynchronous Interaction in a Continuous Double Auction ModelKazuto Sasai; Yukio-Pegio Gunji; Tetsuo Kinoshita, 筆頭著者, Continuous asynchronous trading activity is a key to understanding real-world market behavior. However, it is not easy to implement an agent-based computational market model because of the ambiguity between time and space. In this study, we use a model of asynchrony in a continuous double auction market in the form of noise and order restrictions to link inside- and outside- uncertainties in the economic system. Our model shows intermittent behavior with a small parameter value, which leads to the misapplication of the price-update rule, and consequently drives burst behavior. The statistical property of time development shows a similar tendency to that in previous empirical studies. Thus, it demonstrates the relationship between the asynchronous property and the complexity of economic systems., WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD

Heterarcical market: Dynamical interplay between time and space in the continuous interaction in a market modelKazuto Sasai; Yukio_Pegio Gunji; Tetsuo Kinoshita, 筆頭著者, Multi-agent models of robust open systems such as natural systems are the important theme in the literature of systems science. Heterarchy, which means dynamical hierarchy, is a structural model, which includes the dynamical interplay between different levels. However, it is not easy to build a formal model of a heterarchical system because the interplay between different levels lead a self-referential paradox. In this paper, we propose an continuous double auction model, which includes a formal model of conitnuous transaction. We encode the model into a restriction rule of the order submittion. The proposed model shows a critical behavior of the actual markets, and it can have the relationship with the behaviors of natural systems., AMER INST PHYSICS

[査読有り] Service Oriented Network Management with Knowledge-Based Network Management System in Fluctuating EnvironmentYusuke Tanimura; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, The best advantage of cloud environment is elasticity. Although cloud-hosted ICT services gain an ability to flexibly change their size and granularity, deep knowledge and much experience are required for administrators to stably operate ICT services in such fluctuating environment. Various attempts on knowledge-based systems are made to reduce burden on administrators. However, knowledge-based systems necessitate management knowledge appropriate to ICT service configuration, and consequently a burden on maintaining knowledge base is not negligible in fluctuating environment. We propose service oriented network management with knowledge-based network management support system. Proposed system is modularized and can be applied to fluctuating environment with less burden. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposal through experiments using implemented prototype system., Springer Verlag

Four Decades of Data Mining in Network and Systems ManagementKhamisi Kalegele; Kazuto Sasai; Hideyuki Takahashi; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, How has the interdisciplinary data mining field been practiced in Network and Systems Management (NSM)? In Science and Technology, there is a wide use of data mining in areas like bioinformatics, genetics, Web, and, more recently, astroinformatics. However, the application in NSM has been limited and inconsiderable. In this article, we provide an account of how data mining has been applied in managing networks and systems for the past four decades, presumably since its birth. We look into the field's applications in the key NSM activities-discovery, monitoring, analysis, reporting, and domain knowledge acquisition. In the end, we discuss our perspective on the issues that are considered critical for the effective application of data mining in the modern systems which are characterized by heterogeneity and high dynamism., IEEE COMPUTER SOC

Priority-Based Hierarchical Operational Management for Multiagent-Based MicrogridsTakumi Kato; Hideyuki Takahashi; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Hak-Man Kim; Tetsuo Kinoshita, Electricity consumption in the world is constantly increasing, making our lives become more and more dependent on electricity. There are several new paradigms proposed in the field of power grids. In Japan, especially after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, the new power grid paradigms are expected to be more resilient to survive several difficulties during disasters. In this paper, we focus on microgrids and propose priority-based hierarchical operational management for multiagent-based microgrids. The proposed management is a new multiagent-based load shedding scheme and multiagent-based hierarchical architecture to realize such resilient microgrids. We developed a prototype system and performed an evaluation of the proposed management using the developed system. Recent autonomy of machines is considered independently from human because the cognitive functions equipped in the autonomic system act only for the system itself. On the other hand, a symbiotic system should support bidirectional cognitive functions between machines and human. This means the cognitive function should not be only for the system but also for the human. We have been developing an autonomic network management system based on active information resources (AIR-NMS) that support utilization of management information resources for human and autonomous agents. Although a well-configured AIR-NMS can solve the network management problems, robustness and availability should be improved to deploy more perturbed heterogeneous open environment that is a requirement of ubiquitous computing. In this paper, we propose an interaction space called AIR-space for cognitive robust cooperation between AIRs in AIR-NMS. AIR-space provides a cognitive information exchange function between AIRs. Mainly, a prototypical design and implementation of AIR-space is presented here. The effectiveness of deployment capability and maintenance-less feature is estimated in the evaluation experiments., IEEE

Numerosity reduction for resource constrained learningKhamisi Kalegele; Hideyuki Takahashi; Johan Sveholm; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, When coupling data mining (DM) and learning agents, one of the crucial challenges is the need for the Knowledge Extraction (KE) process to be lightweight enough so that even resource (e.g., memory, CPU etc.) constrained agents are able to extract knowledge. We propose the Stratified Ordered Selection (SOS) method for achieving lightweight KE using dynamic numerosity reduction of training examples. SOS allows for agents to retrieve differentsized training subsets based on available resources. The method employs ranking-based subset selection using a novel Level Order (LO) ranking scheme. We show representativeness of subsets selected using the proposed method, its noise tolerance nature and ability to preserve KE performance over different reduction levels. When compared to subset selection methods of the same category, the proposed method offers the best trade-off between cost, reduction and the ability to preserve performance. © 2013 Information Processing Society of Japan.

Multiagent-based processing and integration of system dataKhamisi Kalegele; Johan Sveholm; Hideyuki Takahashi; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, This paper presents a multiagent-based ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) unit for the processing and integration of system operational data in order to improve its value. Operational data plays a vital role in managing and optimising systems. Although KDD (Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining) techniques and concepts have long existed, it is only now that we are seeing real applications being extended onto network and systems management. However, the massive data pre-processing (e.g. feature extraction and data integration) which is needed prior to putting KDD tools in action, is still limiting the extent of exploitation. We propose and design the multiagent-based ETL unit which uses Support Vector Machine and Natural Language Processing techniques to efficiently extract information features from operational data. The unit uses an mSPIDER algorithm to discover INclusion Dependencies (INDs) which are used to integrate data across its peers within the system. We demonstrate efficiency of the unit and the used approaches using operational data from a mailing system. Copyright © 2013 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

System monitoring models as active information resourcesKhamisi Kaiegele; Hideyuki Takahashi; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, Mathematical and knowledge based models are the cornerstones of most autonomie network and systems monitoring operations. The models embody knowledge and experiences of monitoring the vast varieties of systems and their behaviours. These many models constitute a lot of unshared knowledge because of differing network dynamics, heterogeneity and interests. One way of making these models sharable is by making them searchable, reusable and adaptable. In this paper, we employ the concept of Active Information Resource (AIR) to give interactive abilities to knowledge models so that they can easily be searched, reused and adapted. The objective is to improve knowledge and experience transfer across system monitoring centers of our networks. © 2013 IEEE., IEEE Computer Society

An expert network administrator is not always stationed as disasters happen. In that case, it is desirable that a novice administrator is capable of taking part in network recovery operations as well. In this paper, a knowledge-based autonomous support management system in emergency situations, is presented. We use the Active Information Resource based Network Management System (AIR-NMS) to relieve the human administrator from parts of her management tasks and presents an interface that remotely can control this management system. The effectiveness of the system is backed up by a prototype system in experiments., IEEE

There are several new paradigms proposed in the field of power grid. In Japan, especially after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, the new power system paradigms are expected to be more resilient to survive several difficulties during a disaster situation. In this paper, we focus on microgrid and propose a new multiagent-based load shedding scheme and multiagent architecture to realize the resilient power grid. We developed a prototype system to evaluate our scheme, and performed an evaluation of our proposals. The result of the evaluation shows the effectiveness of our proposals, despite of the physical uncertainty. © 2013 IEEE.

[査読有り] On-demand Data Numerosity Reduction for Learning ArtifactsKhamisi Kalegele; Hideyuki Takahashi; Johan Sveholm; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, In domains in which single agent learning is a more natural metaphor for an artifact-embedded agent, Exemplar-Based Learning (EBL) requires significantly large sets of training examples for it to be applicable. Obviously large sets of training examples contradict resource capabilities of artifacts. To make EBL a possibility for these artifacts, sets of training examples must be reduced in size in a way that does not compromise learning performance in order to relieve artifacts' resources (e.g. memory).
In this paper, we investigate training sets requirements for artifacts learning and propose a ranking-based Stratified Ordered Selection (SOS) method to scale them down. Contrary to reduction approaches in mainstream learning, this method has been designed with resource constraint nature of artifacts in mind. Artifacts shall use an intermediary which implements SOS to, dynamically and on-demand, retrieve training subsets based on their resource capacities (e.g. memory, CPU). SOS uses a new Level Order (LO) ranking scheme which has been designed to broaden representation of classes of examples, to quicken data retrieval, and to allow for retrieval of subsets of varying sizes while ensuring same or near same learning performance. We present how SOS evaluates on various well known machine learning datasets and how it compares to some of the best performing data reduction approaches., IEEE

On-demand Numerosity Reduction for Object LearningKhamisi Kalegele; Johan Sveholm; Hideyuki Takahashi; Kazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, In Internet of Things, softwares shall enable their host objects (everyday-objects) to monitor other objects, take actions, and notify humans while using some form of reasoning. The ever changing nature of real life environment necessitates the need for these objects to be able to generalize various inputs inductively in order to play their roles more effectively. These objects shall learn from stored training examples using some generalization algorithm. In this paper, we investigate training sets requirements for object learning and propose a Stratified Ordered Selection (SOS) method as a means to scale down training sets. SOS uses a new instance ranking scheme called LO ranking. Everyday-objects use SOS to select training subsets based on their capacity (e.g. memory, CPU). LO ranking has been designed to broaden class representation, achieve significant reduction while offering same or near same analytical results and to facilitate faster on-demand subset selection and retrieval for resource constrained objects. We show how SOS outperforms other methods using well known machine learning datasets. © 2011 ACM.

Mutiagent architecture of knowledge based network management support systemKazuto Sasai; Gen Kitagata; Tetsuo Kinoshita, To reduce the loads of network administrators and to ensure the tasks, we have proposed AIR-NMS, which is a network management support system (NMS) based on Active Information Resource (AIR). In AIR-NMS, various information resources (e.g., state information of a network, practical knowledge of network management) are combined with software agents which have the knowledge and functions for supporting the utilization of the resources, and thus individual resources are given activities as AIRs. Through the organization and cooperation of AIRs, AIR-NMS provides the administrators with practical measures against a wide range of network faults. In this paper, we present the way to install network management knowledge as AIRs and its multi-agent architecture of AIR utilization, which is AIR-NMS. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we describe some design pattern and some implemented examples of activated information resource (AIR) on network administration. A design pattern consists of the classification policy of information resources such as state of network equipments and representation of information utilization knowledge such as expertise and heuristics of administrators. Based on these AIRs, we present a prototype architecture of cooperation among AIRs and integration of functions. The architecture realize the flexible/scalable fault recovery support processing in form of parallel distributed procedure. © 2010 IEEE.

Heterarchy in biological systems: A logic-based dynamical model of abstract biological network derived from time-state-scale re-entrant formKazuto Sasai; Yukio-Pegio Gunji, Heterarchical structure is important for understanding robustness and evolvability in a wide variety of levels of biological systems. Although many studies emphasize the heterarchical nature of biological systems, only a few computational representations of heterarchy have been created thus far. We propose here the time-state-scale re-entrant form to address the self-referential property derived from setting heterarchical structure. In this paper, we apply the time-state-scale re-entrant form to abstract self-referential modeling for a functional manifestation of biological network presented by [Tsuda, I., Tadaki, K., 1997. A logic-based dynamical theory for a genesis of biological threshold. BioSystems 42, 45-64]. The numerical results of this system show different intermittent phase transitions and power-law distribution of time spent in activating functional manifestation. The Hierarchically separated time-scales obtained from spectrum analysis imply that the reactions at different levels simultaneously appear in a dynamical system. The results verify the mutual inter-relationship between heterarchical structure in biological systems and the self-referential property of computational heterarchical systems. [査読有り] Abstract heterarchy: Time/state-scale re-entrant formYukio-Pegio Gunji; Kazauto Sasai; Sohei Wakisaka, A heterarchy is a dynamical hierarchical system inheriting logical inconsistencies between levels. Because of these inconsistencies, it is very difficult to formalize a heterarchy as a dynamical system. Here, the essence of a heterarchy is proposed as a pair of the property of self-reference and the property of a frame problem interacting with each other. The coupling of them embodies a one-ity inheriting logical inconsistency. The property of self-reference and a frame problem are defined in terms of logical operations, and are replaced by two kinds of dynamical system, temporal dynamics and state-scale dynamics derived from the same "liar statement". A modified tent map serving as the temporal dynamics is twisted and coupled with a tent map serving as the state-scale dynamics, and this results in a discontinuous self-similar map as a dynamical system. This reveals that the state-scale and temporal dynamics attribute to the system, and shows both robust and emergent behaviors. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved., ELSEVIER SCI LTD

[査読有り] Return map structure and entrainment in a time-state-scale re-entrant systemYukio-Pegio Gunji; Kazuto Sasai; Masashi Aono, From the perspective of a heterarchy, endo-physics, or internal measurement, a time-state-scale re-entrant system has been proposed [Y.-P. Gunji, K. Sasai. S. Wakisaka, BioSystems (submitted for publication)]. However, the dynamical structure of this system has yet to be estimated. Because the return map of the time-space re-entrant system results from the twisted coupling between the temporal and state-scale states. it is analytically determined. The attractors of entrainment in the interactive re-entrant system are also determined by a particular recursive rule, and it is also shown that a resulting return map can control the attractors of the interactive systems.
