- Fabrication of nanostructured DLC coatings using anodic alumina films

中村雅史,原口忠男,内山賢, 筆頭著者, This paper presents an investigation of the influence of nitrogen addition on the thermoelectric conversion performance of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films on glass substrates using RF plasma chemical vapor deposition. The respective thermoelectric conversion performances and Hall effect of the DLC films were evaluated and compared as a function of Nitrogen concentration. And film composition and atomic bond structure were characterized using Raman spectroscopy and XPS. At temperature of 473.2K, absolute value of Seebeck coefficients of the DLC films decreased concomitantly with increasing nitrogen concentration at 0—4.0at.%. However, the Seebeck coefficients of 4.0—8.1at.% were almost identical. At temperature at 298.2K, the Seebeck coefficients of 0—8.1at.% were almost identical regardless of the concentration of nitrogen. At temperature of 298.2K, specific resistance of the DLC films decreased concomitantly with increasing nitrogen concentration at 0—4.0at.%. However, the specific resistance of 4.0—8.1at.% was almost identical. The power factor of the DLC films increased concomitantly with increasing nitrogen concentration below the temperature of 398.2K. Hall effect measurements revealed that the difference by nitrogen concentration of Seebeck coefficient and specific resistance are expressed as a function of the carrier density and the carrier mobility respectively. Considering the results of Raman spectroscopy and XPS revealed that the sp3 bond in the DLC film increases with increasing nitrogen concentration. Thus, it was suggested that the electrical properties and semiconductor properties of DLC films depend on the sp2/sp3 fraction in the films., The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers

中村雅史,原口忠男,内山賢, 筆頭著者, This paper presents an investigation of the influence of nitrogen addition on the thermoelectric performance of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films on glass substrates using RF plasma chemical vapor diposition (CVD). The DLC films were prepared using methane (CH4) with 0—40% nitrogen (N2) concentrations as the source gas. The respective thermoelectric performances of the DLC films were evaluated and compared. The Seebeck coefficients of the DLC films decreased concomitantly with increasing nitrogen concentration at 0—20%. However, the Seebeck coefficients of 20% and the 40% were almost identical. The specific resistance of the DLC films decreased concomitantly with increasing nitrogen concentration at temperatures of room temperature to 150°C; above that temperature, the specific resistance of each DLC film was identical. The specific resistance decreases significantly with increasing nitrogen content, but the Seebeck coefficient decreases only slightly. The power factor (PF) of the DLC films increased concomitantly with increased nitrogen concentration below the temperature of 125°C. Results show that the PF quality of DLC films was affected strongly by the magnitude of the specific resistance. Hall effect measurements revealed a decreased specific resistance of the DLC films because of increased carrier concentration attributable to increased N2 contents. Raman spectroscopy measurements suggest that structural changes in the films influenced the DLC films' thermoelectric performance., The Surface Finishing Society of Japan

中村雅史,原口忠男,内山賢, 筆頭著者, This paper presents an investigation of the thermoelectric performance of DLC films deposited on glass substrates using RF plasma CVD method. The respective thermoelectric performances of Si-doped DLC film and non-Si doped DLC film were evaluated and compared. The DLC films showed a Seebeck effect, and they had p-type semiconductor characteristics.The values of DLC films' Seebeck coefficients were 1/5 - 1/100 compared to those of the conventional thermoelectric materials. At temperatures of 80-200°C, the Seebeck coefficients of Si-doped DLC and non-doped DLC were almost identical. The resistivity value of DLC films decreased exponentially with increasing temperature. Furthermore, the DLC film values were much larger than those of conventional thermoelectric materials: 105 to 1010 times larger. The thermal conductivity of DLC films was about one-half that of conventional thermoelectric materials at room temperature. The results presented above suggest that reducing DLC film resistivity through control of deposition conditions, doped element composition, and other means must be examined to raise the thermoelectric performance of DLC film., The Surface Finishing Society of Japan

鈴木秀人,中村雅史,曙紘之,金鷹,石田誠, The derailments accident of railroad suffer a large number of casualties, and it occurred sometimes all over the world even now. Many causes of the derailment accident are that the wheel runs on a rail by high friction coefficient contact between the wheel flange and the rail. So, normally the lubricating oil is used in order to prevent the high coefficient contact. However, it has many problems to use the oil, for example oil maintenance cost and care for environmental problems. In this study, in order to achieve the low friction coefficient without using the lubricating oil, the surface modification treatment which indicates excellent tribological properties was suggested, especially DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. Model wheels coated surface modifications were prepared. The friction and abrasion tests assumed actual condition were carried out. It is clear that to coat DLC only has no effect, so it is important to combine two or more surface modifications. By combining the surface modifications, it can be achieved low friction coefficient contact between the wheel flange and the rail without using the lubricating oil enough to prevent the derailments. Further more, in order to achieve more safety wheel, hybrid-MoS2 coating was performed. This wheel indicated significantly low friction coefficient. It is possible to achieve security and safety wheel which can prevent the derailments by using hybrid-DLC and hybrid-MoS2 coating., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

原口忠男; 中村雅史,鈴木秀人, In this study, high temperature fatigue crack propagation test of the engineering plastic material was carried out in order to clarify the effect of loading rate on the fatigue crack propagation property at the high temperature environment above Tg. Then, failure mechanism and loading rate dependence were evaluated. (1) The resistance against the crack propagation at 30 Hz that was high loading rate was more excellent than that at 10 Hz and 3 Hz which was low-loading rate. And, the resistance against the crack propagation at 10 Hz was equivalent to that at 3 Hz. (2) The resistance against the crack propagation of R 1 material remarkably decreased in comparison with that of virgin material. However, the resistance against the crack propagation of R 3 material was almost equal to that of R 1 material. (3) From the fractography using SEM the fracture surface at high loading rate was a brritle form, and the effect by the fatigue was big. In the meantime, that at low loading rate was a ductile form, and it seemed to overlap fatigue and creep. The viscoelastic effect of the matrix seems to remarkably appear in the fracture surface at low loading rate. (4) It was proven that the process zone dimension and the reinforced fiber length influenced the difference between fatigue crack proagation mechanism at the high loading rate and that at the low loading rate., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

松本鉄男,鈴木秀人,中村雅史,大槻智也, In this study, fatigue reliability of halogen free substrate noticed as an environmental harmony type printed circuit board backing was evaluated. And, the examination was demonstratively carried out on the difference of failure mechanism in fatigue breakdown and static destruction from the mesoscopic viewpoint. (1) There was a difference in both fatigue life, though mechanical property of halogen free material was almost equal to that of halogen material. That is to say, the fatigue life of halogen free material was longer than that of halogen material. (2) In halogen free material, the crack was comparatively generated in initial stage in fatigue life. In the meantime, in the halogen material, it immediately came to rupture, when crack was generated, and it was frailly destroyed. (3) From the fractographic study, it was indicated that the difference in fatigue life of halogen free material and fatigue life of halogen material was controlled by the difference of size (Unit Fracture Area) of the characteristic destruction pattern. (4) In fatigue breakdown, matrix resin is a weakest link. In the meantime, the effect of the difference of matrix resin does not appear in the static destruction in the sake glass fiber strength (that is to say, it is a strongest link)., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

In particular, 'Non-damage' method that was prevented craze around thorough-holes on printed board and has high holding force for the contact was proposed. The main results were as follows ; (1) Conventional contacts caused printed board around through-hole the crazing damage. On the other hand, improved contact it no damage. (2) It was understood that crazing damage on printed board was caused by exfoliation between grass-fiber and epoxy resin. These damage on printed board were distributed into following three regions by loaded stress ; (1) Non-damage region, (2) Pre-damage region and (3) Damage region. (3) Maximum normal stress in improved contact was small stress within the 'Non-damage' region which was caused printed board no damage. (4) Improved contact designed by 'Non-damage' method had high reliability for printed board. Because of increase of area of press-fitting portion, this contact didn't only cause printed board no damage around through-hole but also had high holding for the contact., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

鈴木秀人,中村雅史,渡辺裕,原口忠男, The complex deterioration of stress and heat on fatigue reliability was investigated on carbonfiber-reinforced PEEK and PA 66. In particular, this study was focused on the estimation of fatigue life by Miner's law under two-step loading above glass transition temperature. The main results were as follows. (1) Under two-step loading, the damage of PEEK materials could not accumulate, that is, the estimation of fatigue life by Miner's law was not applied to PEEK materials. On the other side, the damage of PA 66 materials could accumulate and the estimation of fatigue life by Miner's law was applied to PA 66 materials. (2) From fractography using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and temperature rising, it was recognized that PEEK materials were more remarkably influenced of stress history of first-stress than PA 66 materials. (3) The mesocrack on surface of specimen of PEEK materials was small compared with that of PA 66 materials. Therefore it could be understood that the estimation of fatigue life by Miner's law was not applied to PEEK materials because of existence of stress relaxation by initiation of minute mesocrack during the fatigue process., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

Carbon fiber reinforced and glass fiber reimforced PEEK (poly-ether-ether-keton) that is thermal plastic was examined to construct the life cycle design intended to decrease environmental stresses. Specially, the influence of recycling process and high environmental temperature on the fatigue reliability of fiber-reinforced PEEK were experimentally examined. Main results were as follows ; (1) It was noted that the S-N curves of recycled PEEK/CF and PEEK/gf materials were as nearly equal to that of virgin material. (2) The macro crack has been initiated on specimen at fatigue limit (N=107 cycle) of recycled gf material, and its crack was not propagated. On the other side, it has been not initiated on CF materials whether Virgin or recycled material. (3) The influence of the declining of fiber length by recycling process on fatigue strength of PEEK materials was small. (4) The influence of recycling process on PEEK/CF and PEEK/gf material could not be found by the fractograhy using SEM and the measuring of temperature rise on surface of specimen. So it was understood that the fracture mechanism of recycled material is squal to that of virgin material. (5) The results of fatigue crack propagation test to make clear the non-propagation crack showed that the fatigue propagation property of recycled material is equal to that of virgin material., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

Especially, the influence of recycling process and high environmental temperature on fatigue crack propagation property of fiber-reinforced PA46 were experimentally examined. Main results were as follows ; (1) FCP property was declined remarkably by complex deterioration between elevated temrerature above Tg and recycling process. (2) From fractography using SEM, it could be understood that fibers were easy to pulled out because the matrix resin became ductile due to declining the dynamic elasticity at elevated temperature above Tg. (3) The interfacial bonding between matrix and fibers in specimens were become worse by recycling process and environmental temperature above Tg. Especially meso crack forming stage developed on notch bottom and its effect on fatigue reliability at elevated temperature. The main results are as follows, (1) The fatigue strenght, life of crack initiation and life of crack propagation for V-notch specimens were almost the same at elevated temperature. (2) From fractography using SEM, it was recognized that the matrix was elongated and the cementing of the interface between fiber and matrix was poor. So it was thought that the crack propagation resistance at elevated temperature was not influence by the kinds of fiber. Self-heating and meso crack forming concerned with thermal and mechanical fatigue was focused on. The main results are as follows, (1) It was recognized that the fatigue characteristics of test pieces above Tg differed from those under Tg. Thus, the influence of environmental temperature on fatigue characteristics was arranged by 'S-N globe'. (2) The fatigue mode at elevated temperatures was divided into two mechanisms. One was thermal fatigue for short fatigue life, the other was mechanical fatigue for long fatigue life. (3) In the case of thermal fatigue, fracture surface was ductilc and self-heating was large : in the case of mechanical fatigue, the former was brittle and the latter was small. 鈴木秀人,岸正幸,中村雅史, The liability of recycled plastic product was estimated using the fatigue fracture toughness. The role of fibers at the crack tip was simulated by FEM using EWS. The main results obtained were as follows. (1)The fatigue fracture toughness KFC of recycled reinforced PA·MXD6 was lower than that of virgin material, whereas KFC of 'Ecomaterial' and virgin material were almost the same. (2)Crack propagation behaviors of recycled material was remarkably different from that of virgin material. In recycled material, fatigue crack propagation perpendicular to the loading direction was turned into unstable crack growth parallel to the loading direction. (3)Crack length of fracture mode transition decreased with increase of recycled frequency. The criterion of unstable fracture could be estimated by clarification of relationship between transition crack length and fatigue fracture toughness. (4)Crack deflection behavior was examined by FEM simulation. Crack deflection in recycled material resulted from inhomogeneous strain distribution in the process zone., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

鈴木秀人,中沢淳一 中村雅史,原口忠男, The influence of notch shape on the fatigue reliability of carbon-fiber (CF) -reinforced PA 46 was examined and compared with that of glass-fiber (GF)-reinforced PA 46, CF. PA 66 and GF. PA 66. The main results were as follows : (1) In terms of the fatigue strength of U-notched specimens, CF. PA 46 is markedly superior to the other three materials. On the other hand, the fatigue strength of V-notched specimens was divided into two groups of CF materials and GF materials. Then, this is inferior to that. (2) For U-notched specimens, three stages were observed in the diagram showing the relation between notch root heating ⊿ T and number of cyclic stress N. The temperature of the notch bottom is increased rapidly at the first stage and kept constant during the second stage. Then, crack tip heating is promoted with crack growth at the final stage. On the other hand, for V-notched specimens, the one and only final stage was found in ⊿ T-N diagram. From ⊿ T-N diagram, it could be suggested that the crack initiating in U-notched specimens required a half fatigue life and that the crack propagating in V-notched specimens had a majority in fatigue life. (3) By micro fractography using SEM, it was recognized that the fracture surface of V-notched specimens was brittle and flat, while that of U-notched specimens was ductile and rough. Therefore, it is assumed that fatigue reliability of U notched specimens could be improved at the crack initiating through the superior heat resistance of CF. 中沢淳一,鈴木秀人,中村雅史,原口忠男, The influences of carbon fiber (CF) on fatigue crack propagation (FCP) of advanced Nylon 46 (N46) were studied in comparison with glass fiber (gf)-reinforced N46. FCP properties were estimated vertical to the injection direction of the molding plate. Three kinds of specimens were tested : 30 wt %gf-, 15 wt %CF- and 30 wt %CF-reinforced N46 (described as gf30, CF15 and CF30, respectively). The values ofΔK at da/dN=10-9 m/cycle, ΔK(10-9), were 2.8, 2.8 and 3.2 MPa √(m), respectively. From fractography using SEM, it was shown that the effect of reinforced fibers on FCP was manifested as fiber bridging. Furthermore, from thermographic nondestructive testing using infrared thermography, it was found that the variation in FCP of each specimen was related to the crack tip opening displacement., 一般社団法人日本機械学会

Especially, the effects of the mezoscopic factor on the fatigue crack propagation were paid attention to. Main results were obtained as follows ; (1) As the recycled material was blended with the virgin material in recycling process, fatigue reliability of 'Ecomaterial' was remarkably improved. Practically the threshold value ΔKth of` 'Ecomaterial' was improved by blending virgin pellet, as the rate of equal to blending value. Then the influence of virgin pellet blended in recycling process on fatigue reriability could be estimate by the law of mixture. (2) From fractgraphy with using SEM and analysis on the length of glass fiber, it could be interpreted the long glass fibers of virgin pellet contributed to the bridging effect on fatigue crack opening in 'Ecomaterial'. (3) The crack opening displacement in 'Ecomaterial' was estimated though measurering the crack tip heating. The main results obtained were as follows : (1) The FCP property of recycled PA·MXD6 became worse than that of the virgin material. In particular, the decline of the fatigue property was fastest in the first recycling process. (2) From the fractography using SEM, it was understood that the detrimental effect of the recycling process on the fatigue property was caused by the breakdown of the glass fibers during the recycling process. (3) The crack tip heating in the recycled material was increased more remarkably than in the virgin marerial. This is because the crack tip opening displacement was increased more markedly than in the virgin material.
