- A Focusing Supermirror for Time-of-Flight Grazing-Incidence Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Measurement
Dai Yamazaki; Ryuji Maruyama; Hiroyuki Aoki; Takayasu Hanashima; Kazuhiro Akutsu-Suyama; Noboru Miyata; Kazuhiko Soyama, This study developed a neutron-beam-focusing supermirror for grazing-incidence small-angle neutron scattering (GISANS) measurements. We adopted point-to-point beam focusing based on an ellipse whose two foci correspond to a virtual point source and a spot on the detector surface. The focusing supermirror was fabricated by depositing NiC/Ti supermirror film with ion-beam sputtering on a precise elliptic surface of fused quartz figured using the elastic emission machining technique. Neutron measurements at the pulsed neutron reflectometer BL17 of the MLF, J-PARC, successfully demonstrated that the focusing supermirror enhances the beam intensity twentyfold compared with an optimally collimated beam, achieving a signal-to-background ratio of the focal spot as high as 500. The measured result, together with quantitative analysis based on the distorted wave Born approximation, showed that the in-plane length of the area with a uniform orientation of moments ranging from 0.5–1.1 μ m was not significantly varied during the process of demagnetization followed by remagnetization. The obtained behavior of moments is in good agreement with the two-dimensional random anisotropy model where coherent magnetization rotation is dominant., MDPI AG

Journal of Neutron Research, 2005, [Reviewed] - An Application of Neutron Resonance Spin Echo to Pulsed Sources
Ryuji Maruyama, Neutron resonance spin echo (NRSE) spectroscopy enables us to measure energytransfer in a neutron scattering process with high energy resolution. It is desirable toapply NRSE spectroscopy to pulsed neutron sources because this application allows avery wide range of the spin echo time. We have developed the neutron resonance spinflipper applicable to a polychromatic pulsed neutron beam, which is necessary for the TOF-NRSE method. Using this flipper, we have also succeeded in observing spin echosignals with polarization higher than 0.65 for the pulsed neutron beam with wavelengthfrom 0.3 to 0.9nm. We discuss those experimental results and the developments for the NRSE spectrometers at a new spallation source., The Japanese Society for Neutron Science
