Moeko Yoshida; Hiromichi Nashimoto; Teruyuki Miyajima, Corresponding, This paper proposes a partial transmit sequences (PTS)-based PAPR reduction method and a phase factor estimation method without side information for OFDM systems with QPSK and 16QAM modulation. In the transmitter, an iterative algorithm that minimizes the p-norm of a transmitted signal determines phase factors to reduce PAPR. Unlike conventional methods, the phase factors are allowed to take continuous values in a limited range. In the receiver, the phase factor is blindly estimated by evaluating the phase differences between the equalizer's output and its closest constellation points. Simulation results show that the proposed PAPR reduction method is more computationally efficient than the conventional PTS. Moreover, the combined use of the two proposed methods achieves a satisfactory tradeoff between PAPR and BER by limiting the phase factors properly., IEICE

Song Yang; Teruyuki Miyajima, Corresponding, In this paper, we propose filter-and-forward beamforming (FF-BF) for cognitive two-way relay networks in which secondary users employ an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Secondary transceivers communicate with each other through multiple relays to obtain BF gain as well as to suppress the interference between the primary and secondary users who share the same spectrum. We consider two FF-BF design methods to optimize the relay filter. The first method enhances the quality of service of the secondary network by maximizing the worst subcarrier signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) subject to transmit power constraints. The second method suppresses the interference from the secondary network to the primary network through the minimization of the relay transmission power subject to subcarrier SINR constraints. We propose a computationally efficient delay design method which reduces the number of delay candidates. To further reduce computational complexity, we develop a simplified delay design method which reduces the number of weight computations. Also, we extend the design method to the case where only partial channel state information of relay-to-destination channels is available. Simulation results show that the proposed relaying strategy outperforms a conventional amplify-and-forward relaying strategy and achieves the performance close to that of a more complex filter-and-forward relaying strategy. In a receiver, there are two OFDM demodulators each with a timedomain equalizer (TEQ) and a frequency-domain equalizer (FEQ). The TEQ parameters are determined such that the outputs of an FEQ are identical to those of another FEQ. Satoshi Nagai; Teruyuki Miyajima, In this paper, we consider filter-and-forward relay beamforming using orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) in the presence of inter-block interference (IBI). We propose a filter design method based on a constrained max-min problem, which aims to suppress IBI and also avoid deep nulls in the frequency domain. It is shown that IBI can be suppressed completely owing to the employment of beamforming with multiple relays or multiple receive antennas at each relay when perfect channel state information (CSI) is available. In addition, we modify the proposed method to cover the case where only the partial CSI for relay-receiver channels is available. In the proposed method, the transmit power is divided between the two transmit antennas, and the receive antenna that provides the maximum receive level is then chosen. Although the receive level is reduced by 3 dB, the maximum attenuation caused by human body shadowing is totally suppressed. The relationship between the antenna element spacing and the theoretical spacing based on the 1st. Fresnel zone theory is clarified. Experiments confirm that antenna spacing several centimeters wider than that given by the 1st. In this paper, we present further performance evaluation; throughput performance under severe shadowing in 60GHz and download time in the presence of received SNR estimation error. Simulation results on throughput show that the FC-ARQ scheme provides good properties of two noncooperative schemes using either 60GHz or 2.4/5GHz. Moreover, it is shown that the FC-ARQ scheme is less sensitive to the SNR estimation error than the scheme using only 60GHz, and enables faster downloading than the scheme using only 2.4/5GHz., IEEE

The proposed 60 GHz WLAN discovery detects 60 GHz WLAN coverage by using RSSI of 2.4/5 GHz WLAN signals. Space/time diversity is employed to improve the false detection probability of 60 GHz WLAN discovery. We derive the blind channel shortening methods by extending the blind channel equalization method previously proposed by Djebbar, Abed-Meraim, and Djebbari. The basic idea is to restore, at the frequency-domain equalizer output, the orthogonality of spreading codes, which is destroyed when interference is present. We show that the extended methods can perfectly shorten the channels and that the resulting effective channel is identical to the predetermined target channel thus avoiding channel estimation. The proposed scheme switches between 60 GHz and 2.4/5 GHz based on monitoring ACK reception and received SNR, where ACK frame is transmitted by 2.4/5 GHz for reliable retransmission. For performance evaluation of these techniques in various environments, we need a deterministic shadowing model for ray-tracing simulations rather than a traditional empirical shadowing model based on experimental data. With this motivation, this paper proposes a twin cylinder model for moving human body shadowing in 60GHz WLAN, where three knife edges for diffraction loss calculation are derived from geometrical positions of a moving human body, a transmitter and a receiver. SSB-DFTs-OFDM is generated by eliminating USB (Upper Side Band) or LSB (Lower Side Band) in frequency domain after DFT spreading of multi-level BPSK signals, thus Hilbert transformer is not necessary to generate SSB signals. The simulation results show that SSB-DFTs-OFDM achieves almost the same PAPR (Peak to Average Power Ratio) and ACLP (adjacent channel power leakage) as conventional DFTs-OFDM and lower PAPR and ACLP than OFDM. Required bandwidth can be reduced by half when BPSK modulation is employed. Furthermore, SSB-DFTs-OFDM using multi-level BPSK shows less error floor and/or E-b/N-0 degradation compared with conventional DFTs-OFDM using QAM modulation in some cases when HPA OBO (Output Back Off) is small. Unlike several known methods, CNA can shorten channels in time domain even if there are many null subcarriers, and is hence suitable for uplink OFDMA in which individual user signals can be modeled as standard OFDM that includes multiple null subcarriers. In addition, we also develop a semiblind implementation of CNA by exploiting potential pilot symbols. Conventional methods assume that the transmitted signal is uncorrelated; however, this assumption is invalid in practical systems such as OFDM with null carriers and MC-CDMA. In this paper, we consider blind channel shortening methods for block transmissions when the transmitted samples within a block are correlated. First, the channel shortening ability of a conventional method is clarified. Next, a new method which exploits the fact that the transmitted samples in different blocks are uncorrelated is introduced. It is shown that the proposed method can shorten the channel properly under certain conditions. In a conventional system where discrete-time chaotic signals are transmitted through the pulse amplitude modulation, the correlator output variance increases as the spreading factor decreases, while the synchronization error increases as the spreading factor increases. Therefore, it is difficult to control the bit error rate only by adjusting the spreading factor. In the proposed system, use of pulse width modulation keeps the envelope of transmitted signals constant, which leads to the correlator output with zero variance. The synchronization error is kept small because the spreading factor can be set to be one without increasing the correlator output variance. We have a result of computer simulation showing that the proposed system achieves a bit error performance better than the conventional system. The proposed method can not only shorten the effective channel impulse response to within the CP length but also maximize the output signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio while eliminating the IBI. We point out that the performance depends on the choice of a decision delay and propose a simple method for determining the appropriate delay. We propose both a batch algorithm and an adaptive algorithm and show by simulation that they are superior to the conventional algorithms. © 2008 IEEE.

This algorithm exploits the property of cyclostationary signals whose cyclic autocorrelation function depends on delay as well as frequency. The cost function is the mean square error between the delay product of the beamformer output and a complex exponential. Exploiting the delay greatly reduces the possibility of capturing undesired signals. Through analysis of the minima of the non-quadratic cost function, conditions to extract a single signal are derived. Teruyuki Miyajima; Kazuo Yamanaka, Lead, In this paper, three issues concerning the linear adaptive receiver using the LMS algorithm for single-user demodulation in direct-sequence/code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) systems are considered. First, the convergence rare of the LMS algorithm in DS/CDMA environment is considered theoretically. Both upper and lower bounds of the eigenvalue spread of the autocorrelation matrix of receiver input signals are derived. It is cleared from the results that the convergence rate of the LMS algorithm becomes slow when the signal power of interferer is large. Second, fast converging technique using a prefilter is considered. The LMS based adaptive receiver using an adaptive prefilter adjusted by a Hebbian learning algorithm to decorrelate the input signals is proposed. Computer simulation results show that the proposed receiver provides faster convergence than the LMS based receiver. Third, the complexity reduction of the proposed receiver by prefiltering is considered. Teruyuki Miyajima; Takaaki Hasegawa, Lead, In this paper, a multiuser receiver using a Hopfield network (Hopfield network receiver) for asynchronous code-division multiple-access systems is proposed. We derive a novel likelihood function for the optimum demodulation of a data subsequence whose length is far shorter than that of the entire transmitted data sequence. It is shown that a novel Hopfield network receiver can be derived by exploiting the likelihood function, and the derived receiver leads to a low complexity receiver. The structure of the proposed receiver consists of a bank of correlators and a Hopfield network where the number of units is proportional to both the number of users and the length of a data sequence demodulated at a time. Computer simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the proposed receiver with those of the conventional multiuser detectors. Teruyuki Miyajima; Takaaki Hasegawa; Misao Haneishi, This paper proposes a fast learning algorithm of neural networks and evaluates the performances of adaptive equalizers using neural networks trained by the proposed algorithm in a frequency‐selective fading channel. The backpropagation (BP) algorithm which is used widely to train neural networks has a slow convergence rate because it is based on the gradient descent method. This paper presents a fast learning algorithm using the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm which has a fast convergence rate as an adaptive algorithm for adaptive linear filters. In the proposed algorithm, the sum of the squared error between the actual total input and the desired total input is used as the cost function to apply the RLS algorithm. A simulation result on the exclusive‐OR problem indicates that the proposed algorithm is about 8.8 times faster than the BP for the number of iterations required to converge. Recently, there has been interest in adaptive equalizers as an application field of neural networks. However, the performance of an adaptive equalizer using a neural network in a frequency‐selective fading channel which is observed in land mobile communications has never been evaluated. Therefore, in this paper, the performances of adaptive equalizers using neural networks trained by the proposed algorithm in a frequency‐selective fading channel are evaluated. Especially, an adaptive equalizer using the selectively unsupervised learning neural network proposed by the authors is considered. The adaptive equalizer can reject the false learning by carrying out learning selectively. Teruyuki Miyajima; Takaaki Hasegawa; Misao Haneishi, Lead, In this paper we consider multiuser detection using a neural network in a synchronous code-division multiple-access channel. In a code-division multiple-access channel, a matched filter is widely used as a receiver. However, when the relative powers of the interfering signals are large, i.e. the near-far problem, the performances of the matched filter receiver degrade. Although the optimum receiver for multiuser detection is superior to the matched filter receiver in such situations, the optimum receiver is too complex to be implemented. A simple technique to implement the optimum multiuser detection is required. Recurrent neural networks which consist of a number of simple processing units can rapidly provide a collectively-computed solution. Moreover, the network can seek out a minimum in the energy function. On the other hand, the optimum multiuser detection in a synchronous channel is carried out by the maximization of a likelihood function. In this paper, it is shown that the energy function of the neural network is identical to the likelihood function of the optimum multiuser detection and the neural network can be used to implement the optimum multiuser detection. Performance comparisons among the optimum receiver, the matched filter one and the neural network one are carried out by computer simulations. Teruyuki Miyajima; Takaaki Hasegawa, In this paper we evaluate performances of decision feedback equalizers(DFE) using multilayer neural networks under frequency selective fading channels. A novel DFE is proposed. The proposed DFE uses a neural network which carries out unsupervised learning selectively in a tracking mode. The proposed DFE is different fiom the DFE using the conventional neural network which carries out learning for every data in the tracking mode. The neural network used in the proposed DFE can avoid false learning caused by incorrect teacher signals with setting the appropriate threshold to decide whether the learning should be carried out or not. The fading channel to be considered is frequency selective and its statical characteristics are Rayleigh. Simulation results show that the performance of the DFE using the conventional neural network is superior to that of the conventional DFE and also show that the performance of the proposed DFE is superior to that of the DFE using the conventional neural network., Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.
