佐藤 大記; 星 伸一; 内田 晃介,The authors have proposed a cell voltage equalizer with an LC series circuit in a previous work. The proposed circuit, however, has the disadvantage that the equalization time tends to be longer than that of other conventional equalizers. Therefore, the authors have studied some control methods to reduce the equalization time. This paper proposes a novel equalization time reduction method using the magnitude relation of each cell voltage estimated from the equalization current for the proposed equalizer. The proposed method can reduce the equalization time without an additional voltage sensor, so the size of the equalizer is not changed and the cost is not higher than an equalizer using the conventional control method. In addition, the characteristics and the effectiveness of the proposed method were verified by the simulations and the experiments. It was confirmed that the proposed method could reduce the equalization time to about 67.7% of that of the conventional control method by the experiments.

水主村 賢吾; 星 伸一; 内田 晃介; 秋山 和成; 樋口 久,In interleaved DC-DC converters, current control is required to solve the problem of unbalanced inductor current. Generally, the same number of current sensors as the number of phases are required for inductor current control, and it increases the cost and circuit volume. In previous work, inductor current control of three-phase interleaved bidirectional boost converters was achieved by high-side DC-link current detection using a current sensor. This paper proposes an inductor current estimation method for three-phase interleaved bidirectional buck-boost converters using a current sensor on a DC bus. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experimental results. As a result, this paper shows that each inductor current can be estimated with our proposed method in bidirectional buck-boost operation. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could estimate the inductor current with an error rate of 0.146% or less.

Moreover, the selling price of surplus power from the renewable energy system by Feed-In Tariff (FIT) has declined. Therefore, this paper proposes an off-grid smart house with the introduced Photovoltaic (PV) system, Solar Collector (SC) system, Hot Water Heat Pump (HWHP), fixed battery and Electric Vehicle (EV). In this research, a multi-objective optimization problem is considered to minimize the introduced capacity and shortage of the power supply in the smart house. It can perform the electric power procurement from the EV charging station for the compensation of a shortage of power supply. From the simulation results, it is shown that the shortage of the power supply can be reduced by the compensation of the EV power. Furthermore, considering the uncertainty for PV output power, reliable simulation results can be obtained., MDPI AG

Usually the power output of PV system fluctuates depending on weather conditions. In order to control the fluctuating power output for PV system, it requires control method of energy storage system. This paper proposes an optimization approach to determine the operational planning of power output for PV system with battery energy storage system (BESS). This approach aims to obtain more benefit for electrical power selling and to smooth the fluctuating power output for PV system. The optimization method applies genetic algorithm (GA) considering PV power output forecast error. The forecast error is based on our previous works with the insolation forecasting at one day ahead by using weather reported data, fuzzy theory and neural network(NN). Yona, The intrinsic properties of an ultrasonic motor (high torque for low speed, high static torque, compact in size, no electromagnetic interference, etc.) offer great advantages for industrial applications. However, when load torque is applied, a dead-zone occurs in control input. Therefore, a sliding-mode controller, which is a non-linear controller, is adopted for the ultrasonic motor. The state quantities, such as acceleration, speed, and position, are needed to apply the sliding-mode controller for position control. However, a rotary encoder causes quantization errors in the speed information. This article presents a robust position control method for an ultrasonic motor by using a variable structure system observer. The state variables for the sliding-mode controller are estimated by the variable structure system observer. A small, low-cost, and good response sliding-mode controller is designed in this work by using a microcomputer that is essential in an embedded system for the development of industrial equipment. H. Yamauchi; K. Uchida; A. Yona; T. Senjyu, This paper proposes a phase detection method for harmonics and unbalanced voltage conditions. The proposed method uses harmonics and unbalanced voltage compensation circuit in addition to basic PLL (Phase Locked Loop) circuit. In the harmonic compensation circuit, the harmonic voltage component are eliminated from the input voltages using specific harmonic detection method. Besides, frequency information of power system used in the specific harmonic detection method is estimated by an extended complex Kalman filter. In the unbalanced voltage compensation circuit, the input voltage is normalized after the calculated positive sequence component. By means of the proposed method, excellent phase detection performance can be achieved under harmonics and unbalanced voltage conditions. Moreover, detection of positive sequence voltage component becomes possible under voltage drop conditions due to faults in power systems. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation results. © 2011 De Gruyter. All rights reserved.

Additionally, all electric apartment houses or residence such as dc smart houses are increasing. However, due to the fluctuating power from renewable energy sources and loads, supply-demand balancing of power system becomes problematic. The smart grid is a solution to this problem. This paper presents a methodology for optimal operation of a smart grid to minimize the interconnection point power flow fluctuation. To achieve the proposed optimal operation, we use distributed controllable loads such as battery and heat pump. By minimizing the interconnection point power flow fluctuation, it is possible to reduce the electric power consumption and the cost of electricity. This system consists of a photovoltaic generator, heat pump, battery, solar collector, and load. However, the renewable energy system is influenced by weather conditions, and the generated power of the renewable energy system is deviated. For the provision of deviated power, the battery energy storage system is introduced to suppress the deviation of the frequency and voltage in power system. However, it needs the large capacity of a battery system, which increases the capital cost. In this paper, we propose a coordinated control strategy between the diesel generator and the battery system to reduce the capital cost of battery, inverter capacity and storage capacity. The proposed control system incorporates the H-infinity control theory, which enables intuitive controller design in frequency domain. Effectiveness of the proposed control system is validated by simulation results. © 2011 Berkeley Electronic Press. All rights reserved.

Funabashi, Wind turbines have become the most cost-effective renewable energy systems available today and are now completely competitive with essentially all conventional generation systems. However, wind stochasticity results in fluctuations in output power as well as undesirable dynamic loading of the drive train during high turbulence. A model-based predictive control strategy for the field-oriented control of a doubly fed induction generator is presented. The control region is defined over two wind profiles: average wind speeds below and above equipment rating, subject to assigned constraints of the maximum allowable system frequency fluctuations and the power limit of the wind generating system. To meet the control objectives of maximising energy capture and alleviation of drive train fatigue loads, each of the WGS component blocks is modelled separately so as to explore the associated trade-offs. Simulations, carried out under a Matlab (R) environment, serve to verify that the proposed paradigm performs better than the classical linear proportional-integral controller in achieving the regulation of torsional dynamics while maintaining optimal operation., INST ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY-IET

Saber, In this article, a technique is proposed for maximum power-point tracking control of a wind generation system. The optimal operation speed to which the wind turbine output power maximizes is determined with parameters identified by an iterative least squares technique. The effectiveness of the maximum point tracking control with identified parameters of wind turbine is verified by computer simulation.
