  • Design and Analysis of Enhanced IM/DD System with Nonorthogonal Code Shift Keying and Parallel Transmission
Nobuyoshi Komuro; Hiromasa Habuchi, Last, Providing Optical Wireless Communications (OWCs) is desirable for high data transmission efficiency. Intensity Modulation and Direct Detection (IM/DD) is widely adopted for its simplicity and practicality. Among various modulation schemes, Code Shift Keying (CSK) has demonstrated superior transmission efficiency compared to On-Off Keying (OOK) and Pulse Position Modulation (PPM). Prior research has shown that CSK performance can be further enhanced through parallel transmission and code concatenation techniques. However, the direct application of concatenated CSK to parallel transmission reduces the number of available code combinations as the concatenation level increases, potentially lowering modulation efficiency. This study proposes an advanced transmission scheme that integrates parallel transmission with a multi-level intensity adjustment mechanism. The proposed method preserves a high number of distinguishable transmission symbols, thereby achieving higher data transmission rates. Analytical derivations for transmission efficiency are provided for single-user scenarios, and numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed system. The key contributions of this work include mitigating symbol reduction in nonorthogonal CSK with parallel transmission and adjusting the multi-level intensity to enhance overall system performance. The results confirm that the proposed scheme significantly improves the efficiency and scalability of nonorthogonal CSK in OWC applications., MDPI AG

  • Hybrid PWM/DPAM Dimming Control for Digital Color Shift Keying Using RGB-LED Array
Jumpei Okumura; Yusuke Kozawa; Yohtaro Umeda; and Hiromasa Habuchi, As a method of dimming support for visible light communications using a massive LED array, we consider a hybrid pulse width modulation/digitally controlled pulse amplitude modulation (PWM/DPAM) system. Especially, in this paper, we consider a digital color shift keying (DCSK) using an RGB-LED array as an optical intensity modulation scheme, that transmits data through the ratio of the optical intensities (i.e., color) emitted by red, green, and blue LEDs. In DCSK, since only one color is activated in each RGB-LED at a time, the color can be represented by the combination of the digitally (i.e., linearly) controlled 'ON-OFF' LEDs. In general, for the dimming control system of DCSK, two schemes have been considered. One is the dimming control by PWM, which changes the duty cycle of optical transmit signals, and the other is the dimming control by DPAM, which changes the number of active LEDs in the RGB-LED array. In this paper, PWM and DPAM are combined to realize a higher spectral efficiency than PWM and a wider dimming range than DPAM. We evaluate the error performances of the proposed system, DCSK with PWM, and DCSK with DPAM from a simulation analysis under several measured light dimming levels. The results show that DPAM should be used only for low bit rate systems because the effect of inter-symbol-interference (ISI), caused by the LED frequency response, increases at a high bit rate. While, PWM is significantly robust against ISI because the PWM signal duration is limited in a symbol duration at the low dimming levels and the empty duration can mitigate the effect of ISI even if the bit rate is high. When focusing on symbol error rate performances corresponding to the dimming levels, the hybrid dimming control and the PWM dimming control can achieve lower signal energy-to-noise-ratio at the dimming level of low and high, respectively., Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.

  • Improved synchronization scheme for indoor visible-light differential on-off keying
Yuta Asano; Hiromasa Habuchi; Yusuke Kozawa, In this paper, as binary modulation schemes, the differential on-off keying (DOOK) system, which can achieve anti-background noise capability and high data transmission efficiency, is considered. In order to solve the synchronization slip, a visible-light framed DOOK system embedding {-1,+1}-synchronization signal pattern is proposed. Moreover, theoretical formulas of detection and false alarm probability are derived. The detection probability taking into account false rate is evaluated under the visible-light channel with scintillation and background noise. Consequently, in the evaluation of detection probability taking into account false alarm rate, the proposed system is better than the conventional system., Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.

  • Performance Evaluation of Novel Optical-Wireless Variable N-parallel Code-Shift-Keying
Keisuke Osawa; Hiromasa Habuchi and Yusuke Kozawa, The indoor visible light communications have mainly the two serious problems; the bit error rate (BER) deterioration due to interference from ambient light and change of the data transmission efficiency according to dimming level. To settle the above problems, in this paper, the variable N-parallel code-shift-keying (VN-CSK) system with modified prime sequence codes (MPSC) for indoor visible light communications is considered. The VN-CSK system with MPSC achieves the same transmission efficiency by changing the number of the codes to select from M MPSCs depending on light regulation data. For example, if the number of MPSC is 5, the VN-CSK system with MPSC can realize 4 stages of dimming level. Moreover, the VNCSK system with MPSC can suppress the influence of co-channel interference by using the group characteristics of MPSC. The bit error rate performance of the VN-CSK system with MPSC is evaluated in optical wireless channel by theoretical analysis. The VN-CSK system with MPSC can realize BER 10-6 when average received optical power per code is -49 [dBm] and the desired signal to interference signal ratio P-w/P-i = 3 [dB]., IEEE

  • Theoretical Analysis of Visible-Light Code-Shift Keying Using Extended Pseudo-Orthogonal M-sequence in Line-of-Sight Link
Shota Takayanagi; Hiromasa Habuchi and Yusuke Kozawa, In this paper, visible-light code-shift keying (CSK) systems using the extended pseudo-orthogonal M-sequence (EPOM) are analyzed in line-of-sight (LOS) link. In particular, the bit error rate (BER) characteristics and the influence of interference from ambient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are clarified by theoretical analysis. In consideration of N/L which is the ratio between the number of codes.. and code lengthN/L of EPOM is L/4 times as large as that of the conventional optical pseudonoise (PN) codes such as the pseudo-orthogonal extended prime sequence code set (POEPC). Therefore, the CSK systems using EPOM have higher information transmission efficiency than the CSK systems using the conventional optical PN codes. In this paper, the BERs of visible-light CSK using EPOM and visible-light CSK using POEPC are evaluated under the same information transmission efficiency in LOS link. As a result, the BERs of the CSK systems using EPOM is lower than that of the CSK systems using POEPC even though there is the influence of the ambient light., IEEE

  • BER performance of Digital Color Shift Keying with Target Color Control
Shunsuke Igata; Yusuke Kozawa; Yohtaro Umeda and Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, target color control for digital color shift keying (DCSK) with multiple multicolor LEDs is presented for improving illumination performances of the modulated DCSK signal. This DCSK system using multiple multicolor LEDs can represent the conventional multi-level CSK symbol with the total amount of each non-varying "On-Off" intensity of multiple LEDs. This paper analyzes the illumination and communication performances of DCSK signals, including correlated color temperature (CCT), color tolerance, color rendering index (CRI), and bit error rate (BER). In particular, the BER performances of the DCSK constellations points, which achieve CCT = 3000 K, 5000 K, and 6500 K, are evaluated from theoretical analysis under the conditions of total optical power or total luminous flux is constant for flicker mitigation. Consequently, the CRI performances can be increased when the number of Quad LEDs (QLEDs) increases. Moreover, it can be seen that the BER performance of DCSK with desired CCT of 5000 K is better than those of 3000 K and 6500 K., IEEE

  • Influence of Synchronization Jitter on BER in Optical-Wireless CSK-MPPM System
Masayuki Ishikawa and Hiromasa Habuchi, The local broadcasting systems, that transmit synchronization data and message-data simultaneously, have been proposed. These systems use hierarchical modulations to transmit several types of data simultaneously. In this paper, a new hierarchical CSK-MPPM system, which unites code shift keying and multi-pulse pulse position modulation, is proposed. The proposed system demodulates both of data by comparative decision. It means the proposed system does not use threshold decision. Although setting threshold is diff cult, many conventional hierarchical systems use threshold. In the proposed system, the MPPM demodulator use integrator output. Even if a synchronization error occurs, integrator output does not change much. It is known from previous studies that the bit error rate performance of the proposed system is better than that of the MPPM-CNK system, which is a conventional hierarchical modulation system. In this paper, bit error rates of the proposed system and the conventional MPPM-CNK system when the synchronization error occurs, is evaluated. It is shown that the bit error rate of the modulation #2 in proposed system is much better than the that of the modulation #2 in the conventional system., IEEE

Tomohiro Okawa and Hiromasa Habuchi, A long lifetime of sensor nodes is one of the key points to construct a sensor network. An on-demand wireless network is one of the wasteful power consumption reduction methods. Each sensor node has a single function. By performing wake-up according to function, the power consumption is further reduced. In this paper, an on-demand wireless network using multi-carrier code-division multiple-access (CDMA) with modifed pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets (MPOMS) is proposed. The detection probability of wake-up signal, the false-alarm probability of wake-up signal, and bit error rate (HER) of data signal is derived. • Robust Turbo-Coded OOK System for Background Noise Alleviation and Frame Synchronization in Optical Wireless Channel
Yuto Matsuda; Hiromasa Habuchi and Yusuke Kozawa, In this paper, optical wireless turbo-coded on-off-keying (OOK) systems have been investigated. These systems suffer from performance deterioration due to background noise and the occurrence of synchronization slip. To solve these problems, an optical wireless system that combines a framed differential OOK (framed-DOOK) system and a punctured turbo-coded system is proposed. The bit error rate (BER) performance ef the punctured turbo-coded framed-DOOK system is evaluated in an optical wireless channel. It is shown that the punctured turbo-coded framed-DOOK system can greatly improve the BER performance of the conventional punctured turbo-coded OOK system. Moreover, in the framed-DOOK systems, the BER of the punctured turbo-coded system is almost the same as that of the standard turbo-coded system. Therefore, the proposed punctured turbo-coded framed-DOOK system is more attractive than the conventional turbo-coded OOK systems for optical wireless communications., Research Institute of Signal Processing, Japan

  • Improved Code-Shift Keying Systems with Functional Pseudonoise Code in Optical-Wireless Channel
Shota Takayanagi; Hiromasa Habuchi; Yusuke Takamaru and Yusuke Kozawa, In this paper, improved code-shift keying (CSK) systems with a functional pseudonoise (PN) code are considered for use in indoor optical-wireless channels. In CSK, increasing the number of optical PN codes improves the data rate. It is also effective for increasing the number of simultaneously transmitting optical PN codes. This method is named N-parallel CSK (N-CSK), which indicates the transmission of N codes. In order to enhance the data rate of CSK systems, optical PN code design has become one of the key areas of study. As such functional codes, in this paper we consider EPOM and POEPC, which can be generated by fusing two kinds of optical PN codes. CSK systems can implement two-stage demodulation, which demodulates every optical PN code. It is expected that two-stage demodulation will improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of CSK systems. In this paper, we combine two-stage demodulation with CSK systems: CSK using EPOM and N-CSK using POEPC. It was found that the BER of CSK systems can be improved by utilizing two-stage demodulation., Research Institute of Signal Processing, Japan

  • Differential-OOK System for Underwater Visible-Light Communications
Mitsuru Saotome; Yusuke Kozawa; Yohtaro Umeda and Hiromasa Habuchi, Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) can provide higher-data-rate communication over moderate distances for new underwater applications. However, high-speed data transmission in UWOC is mainly limited by spectral attenuation in water and background noise. In this study, we propose an analytical underwater daylight noise model that incorporates the daylight simulation model SPCTRAL2 with an upwelling solar radiance model for the practical analysis of background light for UWOC. Moreover, we also consider a differential on-off-keying (DOOK) system in our simulation model. This DOOK system was proposed to reduce the effect of background noise in free-space optical communications. It was found that the effectiveness of the DOOK system can be verified by our new underwater daylight noise model. For example, for coastal water and harbor water, the DOOK system can improve BERs compared with an OOK system with a fixed threshold. In addition, the DOOK system can achieve a BER of less than10−6 in coastal water during daylight hours., Research Institute of Signal Processing, Japan

We focus on the code division multiple access (CDMA) based relay network using binary countdown scheme with GMPSC. The packet success rate and the throughput of binary countdown scheme with GMPSC are evaluated by taking into account the influence of the free space propagation loss and the channel noise. Furthermore, binary countdown scheme with GMPSC is compared with the spread ALOHA scheme. Fairness in communication with a relay node between nodes is investigated. As a result, it is found that binary countdown scheme with GMPSC outperforms the spread ALOHA scheme using orthogonal codes. Moreover, binary countdown scheme with GMPSC can maintain fairness of the binary countdown success rate among nodes. The simulation result are in good agreement with theoretical calculations., IEEE

  • Optical-wireless enhanced code-shift-keying with IM/DD
Shota Takayanagi; Hiromasa Habuchi; Yusuke Kozawa, In this paper, the extended pseudo orthogonal Msequence is proposed for the optical-wireless code-shift-keying (CSK) system. The extended pseudo orthogonal M-sequence is a new optical pseudo-noise (PN) code which consists of the modified pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets (MPOMS) and the bi-orthogonal code. The performance of the CSK systems is enhanced by increasing the number of the optical PN codes. As the conventional optical PN code, the bi-orthogonal code and the pseudo-orthogonal extended prime code set can generate the number of the optical PN codes same as the code length. The extended pseudo orthogonal M-sequence can achieve the performance enhancement of the CSK systems because of its generation of the large number of the codes per the code length. The CSK system using the extended pseudo orthogonal Msequence has better performance than the CSK systems using the conventional PN code., IEEE

Since CSK has several PN codes, the data transmission rate and the bit error rate (BER) performance can be improved by increasing the number of PN codes. However, the conventional optical PN codes are not suitable for optical CSK with IM/DD because the ratio of the number of PN codes and the code length of PN code, M/L is smaller than 1/root L this paper, an optical CSK with a new PN code, which combines the generalized modified prime sequence code (GMPSC) and Hadamard code is analyzed. • Optical Wireless LDGM-BPPM With Unequal Transmission Power Allocation Scheme
Kyohei Sumikawa; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, the low density generator matrix (LDGM) coded scheme with unequal transmission power allocation (UTPA) in optical wireless channel is evaluated by computer simulation. In particular, the bit error rate performance of the LDGM-coded binary pulse position modulation (LDGM-BPPM) with the UTPA scheme is investigated in the presence of avalanche photo diode (APD) noise, scintillation and background noise. Consequently, the BER performance of the LDGM-BPPM with UTPA is better than that of the conventional LDGM-BPPM. It is found that there is the optimum power ratio (R). The optimum R varies with scintillation and background noise. For example, when the average received laser power is -47 [dBm], the variance of scintillation is 0.1, and background noise is -45 [dBm], the optimum R is 3.1. Thus, the LDGM-BPPM with the UTPA scheme is superior to the conventional LDGM-BPPM system., IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG

Sachin Rai; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, the performance of rate r=1/2 punctured turbo code using a technique called Unequal Transmission Power Allocation (UTPA) is studied in optical wireless communication (OWC) with intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD). UTPA scheme is applied at the outputs of rate r=1/2 punctured turbo encoder. Different powers are allocated to systematic bit and parity bits keeping the total transmission power fixed. BPPM is used as modulation technique and the system's performance is evaluated through simulation in an optical wireless channel. Obtained results suggest that punctured turbo code combined with UTPA technique is an effective method which leads to better Bit Error Rate (BER) performance in an optical wireless channel. • Effective Code Tracking System for M-ary Orthogonal Modulation Scheme
Masaya Yamagata; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, the tracking method for M-ary orthogonal modulation system is used for the internal synchronization system that uses square-low detector. In the system, a pair of pseudo-noise(PN) sequences which consists of the modified pseudo-ternary M-sequence and {-1, 1}-valued M-sequence is used. The modified pseudo-ternary M-sequence is a PN code which combines the {0, 1}-valued M-sequence with the Hadamard code. The S-curve characteristic of the tracking system is much the same as that of the conventional 1Δ-DLL system with {-1, 1}-valued M-sequence. Thus, the M-ary orthogonal modulation system using MPTM can use the DLL used in the DS/SS system. The following performance in channel with the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is analyzed and evaluated
    (1) The tracking error (jitter) performance and (2) The bit error rate (BER) performance that takes jitter into account. As a result, these performances are better than conventional M-ary orthogonal systems. © 2013 IEEE.

  • Optical N-Parallel Codes-Shift-Keying Using Generalized Modified Prime Sequence Codes and Hadamard Codes
Yusuke Takamaru; Hiromasa Habuchi, For optical wireless communications with intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM/DD), the N parallel code shift keying (N-CSK) systems using a pseudo-noise (PN) codes are considered. Since N-CSK has the several PN codes, the data transmission rate and the bit error rate (BER) performance can improve by increasing the number of PN codes. However, the conventional optical PN codes are not suitable for optical N-CSK with IM/DD because the ratio of the number of PN codes and the PN-code length, M/L, is smaller than 1/root L. Therefore, one of serious problems encountered with optical wireless N-CSK with IM/DD is to design the optical PN code.
In this paper, a PN code, which combines the generalized modified prime sequence code (GMPSC) with Hadamard code, is proposed. Moreover, a new N-CSK using the proposed PN code is shown. The proposed PN code can achieve M/L = 1. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed system can achieve high data transmission rate compared with the conventional optical N-CSK systems. Moreover, the bit error rate performance is evaluated under the additive white Gaussian noise channel. It is found that the proposed optical N-CSK outperforms the conventional optical N-CSK system., IEEE

  • Optical Wireless LDPC-Coded PPM with Unequal Transmission Power Allocation Scheme
Kyohei Sumikawa; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, the low density parity check(LDPC) coded schemes with unequal transmission power allocation (UTPA) in optical wireless channel is evaluated. In particular, the bit error rate performance of the LDPC coded binary pulse position with UTPA is investigated in the presence of APD noise, thermal noise, scintillation. Consequently, the BER performance of the LDPC coded pulse position modulation with UTPA is better than that of the conventional LDPC coded pulse position modulation. It is found that there is optimum power ratio (R) and optimum R is varied by each average received laser power per slot (P-w). For example, when variance of scintillation is 0.1, the optimum R is 4.0 at P-w =-50[dBm]. Thus, the LDPC coded pulse position modulation with UTPA system is superior to the conventional system with R=1.0., IEEE

  • On the Modified Pseudo-Ternary M-Sequence Pair
Masaya Yamagata; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, we described the properties of the modified pseudo-ternary M-sequence (MPTM) pair, which consists of the MPTM and -1, 1-valued M-sequence, such as the generating MPTM pair, the orthogonality, the expansion of MPTM, the cross-correlation, and the S-curve characteristic. MPTM is a PN code which combines the 0, 1-valued M-sequence with the Hadamard code. • Performance Analysis of Multi-pulse PPM for Optical Wireless Hierarchical Transmission System
Yusuke Kozawa; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, the new optical wireless hierarchical modulation scheme is proposed. The proposed system is designed based on multi-pulse pulse-position modulation (MPPM) using modified pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets as a pseudo-noise code. The symbol error rate (SER) performance is derived taking into account the effect of the scintillation, background-noise, avalanche photo-diode (APD) noise, thermal noise, and signal dependence noise. Data transmission rate is also obtained. Our results show that the data transmission rate performance improves significantly compared with the conventional MPPM system. The modified binary countdown scheme is fused with the binary countdown and slot distributed schemes. • A Tracking System Using a Differential Detector for M-ary Bi-orthogonal Spread Spectrum Communication Systems
Junya Kawata; Kouji Ohuchi; and Hiromasa Habuchi, As an application of the direct sequence spread spectrum (SS) communication system, there is an M-ary bi-orthogonal SS communication system. In its system, several spreading sequences (bi-orthogonal sequences) are used in a code shift keying basis. Hence, design of the spreading code synchronization system has been an issue in the M-ary bi-orthogonal SS systems. In this paper, the authors focus on a code tracking system using a differential detector and a Delay Lock Loop (DLL). They investigate a tracking performance of their code tracking system by theoretical analysis. In addition, a multi-stage interference canceler is applied to the M-ary bi-orthogonal SS system. As the result, it is shown that the tracking performance of the theoretical analysis is almost the same as that of computer simulations in a multi-user environment. • Repeated-permutation MPPM/CDMA with interference avoidance and cancellation
Tatsuya Muramatsu; Toshiki Kato; Fumie Ono; Hiromasa Habuchi, To realize the high throughput performance in the optical wireless communications effectively, a Repeated-permutation Multi-pulse Pulse Position Modulation (RMPPM) system with interference avoidance and cancellation is considered. The RMPPM system can transmit the bit data using the repeated-permutation of the slot positions and several orthogonal codes. The RMPPM system can improve the throughput performance of the conventional PPM systems in the single user case. However, with increasing the number of code per frame, Multiple Access Interference (MAI) also increases in the multi-user case. To avoid MAI, we consider a Reduction Rule (RR) of orthogonal codes at a transmitter. On the other hand, we apply an Interference Cancellation (IC) using modified prime codes at a receiver. As results, BER can be greatly improved by RR and IC. In particular, the balance properties, the runlength distribution, the cross-correlation properties, and the decimation relationships are shown. Ryo Enomoto; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, a code acquisition and tracking system using pseudo-ternary maximum-length shift register sequence (pseudo-ternary M-sequence) is proposed. The pseudo-ternary M-sequence is based on the M-sequence and generated by very simple methods. In the code tracking part of the proposed system, a delay-locked loop (DLL) referring the pseudo-ternary Msequence is used. The DLL using the pseudo-ternary M-sequence can improve a tracking error performance by comparison with the DLL using the M-sequence. In the code acquisition part, a rectified pseudo-ternary M-sequence and the {-1, +1}-valued M-sequence are used. Because of the rectification, the proposed system realizes an acquisition scheme that is independent of polarity of a received sequence. Moreover, since a cross-correlation function of the pseudo-ternary M-sequence and the {-1, +1}- valued M-sequence shows a pseudo-orthogonal relation, a probability of a false alarm of the proposed system can be smaller than the conventional sliding correlator using Manchester-coded M-sequences. © 2010 IEEE.

As the error control protocol of this system, the push-type packet compensation protocol using Spread-Spectrum have been proposed. However, when the number of users increasing significantly, the average packet acquisition time of this protocol deteriorates by the packet collision. In order to overcome this problem, the slot-distributed push-type packet compensation protocol is proposed and analyzed. Consequently, it is shown that the proposed protocol is effective on the high user density., IEEE

Nobuyoshi Komuro; Hiromasa Habuchi; Toshinori Tsuboi, Nonorthogonal Code Shift Keying Code Division Multiple Access (CSK/CDMA) ALOHA is expected to improve the throughput in advanced wireless network, such as sensor networks and ad-hoc networks. The throughput of the nonorthogonal CSK/CDMA ALOHA is expected to get better by introducing the interference cancellation technique. It is not clear how much the throughput improved by introducing the interference canceler. This paper presents the throughput performance of the nonorthogonal CSK/CDMA ALOHA with the interference canceler by theoretical analysis. Consequently, it is found that the throughput performance of our system is over 1.0., IEEE

  • Construction of orthogonal overlapping pulses for impulse radio communications
Masaru Kamada; Semih O"ZLEM; Hiromasa Habuchi, A procedure is developed to construct a time-limited pulse for its use in the short-range impulse radio communications. The evennumbered shifts of the pulse constitute a train of overlapping pulses. The pulses are intentionally made orthogonal to the second derivative of one another. This orthogonality makes it possible to detect the received pulses, which are assumed to be the second derivative of the transmitted pulses, by means of correlation with the original pulses. An example pulse is presented that complies with the FCC regulation for indoor ultra-wide bandwidth radio communications. • Nonorthogonal CSK/CDMA with received-power adaptive access control scheme
Nobusyoshi Komuro; Hiromasa Habuchi; Toshinori Tsuboi, The measurements for Multiple Access Interference (MAI) problems and the improvement of the data rate are key issues on the advanced wireless networks. In this paper, the nonorthogonal Code Shift Keying Code Division Multiple Access (CSK/CDMA) with received-power adaptive access control scheme is proposed. In our system, a user who is ready to send measures the received power from other users, and then the user decides whether to transmit or refrain from transmission according to the received power and a pre-decided threshold. Not only overcoming the MAI problems, but our system also improve the throughput performance. The throughput performance of the proposed system is evaluated by theoretical analysis. Consequently, the nonorthogonal CSK/CDMA system improves by applying received-power adaptive access control. It was also found that the throughput performance of the nonorthogonal CSK/CDMA system is better than that of the orthogonal CSK/CDMA system at any Eb/N0. • Performance Analysis of Pull-Type Packet Compensation Protocol with Perfect MCS/CDMA for the Broadcasting System
Koichio Hashiura; Hiromasa Habuchi, The purpose of this paper is to analyze the pull-type packet compensation protocol with perfect Multi-Code Sense Code Division Multiple Access (MCS/CDMA). MCS/CDMA is the access control that the user who transmits the packet estimates the unused code and the packet is spread by the code. In this paper, the average packet acquisition time and the average number of remaining unsuccessful users after n compensation procedures are analyzed. Moreover, the pull-type packet compensation protocol using MCS is compared with the pull-type packet compensation protocol using random code selection. As the results, MCS/CDMA is effective in the pull-type packet compensation protocol for broadcasting service because the average packet acquisition time of MCS/CDMA is shorter than that of random code selection., IEEE

However, each user can not estimate the channel completely because it is not practical that all users receive the signals with equal power. Moreover, the frame synchronization methods of the SS-MMPPM system are considered. the method is classified into two methods: the method with the preamble signal (Type A) and the method without the preamble signal (Tape B). In this paper, the following performances are evaluated: the data transmission rate, the synchronization performance and the efficiency. In this system, each user estimates the number of transmitting users based on the received power and decides whether to transmit a packet or not. When a user becomes ready to send, the user estimates the number of transmitting users. If it is equal or less than a certain threshold, a, the user transmits a packet with a probability p = 1. Otherwise, the user transmits a packet with 0 <= p < 1. • Design of UWB Pulses in Terms of B-Splines
Mitsuhiro Matsuo; Masaru Kamada; and Hiromasa Habuchi, The present paper discusses a new construction of UWB pulses within the framework of soft-spectrum adaptation., The employed basis functions are B-splines having the following properties: (i) The B-splines are time-limited piecewise polynomials. (ii) The, first-order B-splines are rectangular pulses and they converge band-limited functions at the limit that their order tends to infinity. (iii) There are an analog circuit and a fast digital filter for the generation of B-splines. Simple application of Gram-Schmidt orthonormalization process to the shifted B-splines results in a few basic pulses, which are well time-limited and have a broad band width, but do not comply with the FCC spectral mask. A constrained approximation technique is proposed for adaptively designing pulses so that they approximate target frequency characteristics. • Novel Code Selecting/Spacing ALOHA System
Fumie Ono; Hiromasa Habuchi; and Tsuyoshi Arai, In this paper, a code selecting/spacing ALOHA system is proposed. The proposed system not only use Nm spreading codes but also M time slots. The proposed system varies in packet size from KNmT c to KMNmTc, where K is the number of symbols per packet and Tc is the chip duration. So, the length of the packet for the proposed system changes according to the source data although the message bits per packet are constant. The number of symbols per packet of the proposed system is smaller than that of the conventional Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Multiple Access (DS/SSMA) ALOHA system. Therefore, the proposed system is expected for improving the throughput performance of the conventional DS/SSMA ALOHA system. In the result of the throughput performance evaluation on the Additive White Gaussian Noise(AWGN) channel, it is shown that the throughput performance of the proposed system is about 2 times higher than that of the DS/SSMA ALOHA system. © 2005 IEEE.

  • Proposal of a Simple Synchronization Method foe CSK/SS
Azumi Ito; Hiromasa Habuchi; Fumie Ono, In this paper, a new tracking method for Code Shift Keying Spread Spectrum (CSK/SS) is proposed. In the CSK/SS systems, since the transmitted sequences vary at every frame, synchronization is difficult. In the proposed method, a pair consists of the Manchester-coded PN sequence and the non-Manchester-coded PN sequence as the synchronizing sequence. The cross-correlation characteristic of the pair is used instead of the S-curve of delay lock loop (DLL). The receiver can track the signal timing by using the characteristic. The proposed method is applied to the external synchronization system whose structure is simple. The following performance in channel with the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is analyzed and evaluated; (1) the tracking error (jitter) performance and (2) the bit error rate (BER) performance that takes the jitter into account. As a result. the jitter of the proposed system is better than those of the conventional DLL systems as E-b/N-0 increases. The jitter of the proposed system has less degradation than those of the conventional systems, even if the number of users increases. Moreover, BER of the proposed system is similar to that of the I Delta-DLL system and superior to that of the 2 Delta-DLL system., IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG

  • New pulse spacing modulation based on spread-spectrum communication scheme
Fimie Ono; Hiromasa Habuchi, A spread-spectrum pulse spacing modulation (SS-PSM) system, which combines a pulse spacing modulation system with the spread-spectrum (SS) communication schemes, is proposed. In the proposed system, the information to be transmitted is represented by the number of slots between the previous and the present spreading code. The preamble signal is used for block synchronisation, and the proposed system uses an even-shift orthogonal sequence as a spreading code. The following performance measures are analysed: the data transmission rate, the block error rate when the receiver detects the preamble signal correctly, the synchronisation performance (the probability of detecting a preamble signal and the probability of false alarm), the block error taking account of the synchronisation performances, and the efficiency. The data transmission rate of the proposed system is much higher than that of the conventional spread spectrum pulse position modulation (SS-PPM) system. The block error rate considering the synchronisation performance can reach the lower bound by making use of the preamble signal [-1, -1, -1, +1, 0]. • A New Modulation Technique Based on Pulse Position Modulation and Code Shift Keying
Fumie Ono; Hiromasa Habuchi, A Time Hopping Pulse Spacing Modulation (TH-PSM) system, which combines the pulse position modulation system with code shift keying, is proposed. The following performances are analyzed; (1) data transmission rate, (2) error rate in a single-user case, (3) error rate in a mufti-user case, and (4) spectral efficiency. Consequently, the data transmission rate of the proposed system is higher than that of the conventional Spread Spectrum Pulse Position Modulation (SS-PPM) system. The proposed system can improve the probability of block error by increasing the number of information bits per spreading code. Moreover; the spectral efficiency of the proposed system is higher than that of the conventional system. The proposed system is more attractive than the conventional SS-PPM system for optical communications; power-line communications, and UWB communications., IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG

  • Initial acquisition performance of Bi-orthogonal modulation systems using differential detector
Kouji Ohuchi; Kouichi Matsuno; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, a frame synchronization system for bi-orthogonal modulation systems is treated. The bi-orthogonal modulation systems use several orthogonal sequences and their inverses for data transmission. Because of these several sequences, the bit error rate performance improves. However, the bi-orthogonal modulation system is more difficult to acquire frame timing than the systems such as the conventional Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum systems which use only one sequence for data transmission. A frame timing acquisition system analyzed in this paper is based on the method which uses a differential detector. By use of the differential detector the receiver obtains the frame timing information regardless of the transmitted sequence. In this paper the authors analyze the initial acquisition time which takes the probability of the false a arm into account, It is found that the rapid increase of the initial acquisition time can be reduced by increasing the number of verification and by raising the threshold level., IEEE

  • Bi-orthogonal modulation systems using two different inner sequences
Ohuchi Kouji; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, we describe a frame synchronization method for bi-orthogonal modulation systems. In biorthogonal modulation systems, several bi-orthogonal sequences are used for data transmission, Frame synchronization in biorthogonal modulation systems is difficult because transmitted sequences call change every frame, In the proposed method, each bi-orthogonal sequence consists of two different inner sequences, Each bi-orthogonal sequence has the same arrangement of two different inner sequences. A receiver can track the frame timing by observing the arrangement of inner sequences. In this paper, we analyze the hit error rate performance that takes into account the tracking performance of a system we developed based oil our method. The spectral efficiency of the proposed system ill code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is also investigated. • Analysis of the Bi-orthogonal Modulation System using Two Different Inner Sequences
Kouji Ohuchi; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, a frame synchronization method for the bi-orthogonal modulation system is proposed. The hi-orthogonal modulation system is one of attractive systems because the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance improves as the number of sequences, which is employed in the system, increases under an additive white gaussian noise environment. Frame synchronization of the bi-orthogonal modulation system is difficult, however, because the bi-orthogonal modulation system uses several sequences for data transmission. In this paper, we show a frame synchronization system that utilizes two different inner sequences. This system enables the receiver to extract the frame timing from the received signal by using the conventional delay lock loop in total independence from the transmitted sequence. In this paper, we analyze the tracking performance of the proposed frame synchronization system. Moreover, the BER performance considering the tracking performance is investigated. As the result, it is found that there is a trade-off between the BER performance and the tracking performance. Furthermore, it is shown that the BER performance of the proposed system is better than that of Binary Phase Shift Keying by 1 [dB] at 10(-5) BER., IEEE

Moreover, the bit error rate(BER) performance under complete synchronization, the synchronization performance, and the BER performance by taking account of the tracking error are evaluated by theoretical analysis. The proposed system uses concatenated sequences which consist of the two separate sequences, that is, an anterior sequence and a posterior sequence, as the spreading codes. Because the particular sequence always appears by multiplying the anterior sequence by the posterior sequence, the proposed system can extract the timing information from the received signal itself. • Theoretical Analysis of M-ary/SS Communication Systems using Racing Counters and a Hadamard Matrix
Kouji Ohuchi; Hiromasa Habuchi; Takaaki Hasegawa, In this paper, performance of M-ary spread spectrum (M-ary/SS) communication systems is discussed. Firstly, the initial acquisition time is evaluated. Secondly, retention time, which is the average number of frames holding correct frame timing, and recovery time, which is the average number of frames required to establish synchronization, are derived. Lastly, bit-error rate (BER) performance is evaluated. M-ary/SS communication systems, which have more than one spreading code, can improve BER performance under conditions in which there is additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). However, the synchronization of M-ary/SS communication systems is difficult because they have several spreading codes. The frame synchronization method which is used in this paper uses a Hadamard matrix and ''racing counters.'' As a result, the retention time becomes longer than the recovery time when the size of the lower counter differs greatly from that of the upper counter in the racing counters. Then BER gets close to the performance which is achieved under the complete synchronization., IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC

  • Bit Error Rate of Bi-orthogonal Systems Considering Synchronization Performance
Hiromasa Habuchi; Shun Hosaka, In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) considering tracking performance is evaluated, by theoretical analysis and computer simulation, for a bi-orthogonal system using a synchronizing pseudo-noise (PN) sequence and cochannel interference cancellers. • Synchronization Methods using Several Synchronizing Chips for M-ary/SS Communication Systems
Kouji Ohuchi; Hiromasa Habuchi, In this paper, a simple frame synchronization system for M-ary/SS communication systems is proposed, and synchronization performance and the resulting bit error rate performance are analyzed. The frame synchronization system uses racing counters and framing chips which are added to spreading sequences. M-ary/SS communication systems can improve bit error rate performance under the condition in which there is an additive white gaussian noise. Synchronization of M-ary/SS communication systems is difficult, however, because M-ary/SS communication systems hew several spreading sequences. The authors proposed the simple frame synchronization system which uses only one chip in the spreading sequence as a framing signal. This system needs a long time for initial acquisition as the frame length is longer. The proposed system in this paper can make initial acquisition time short by increasing the number of framing chips. The proposed system corresponds to the conventional system when the number of framing chips is 1. As the result, it is shown that several framing chips contribute to decrease the initial acquisition time. Moreover, the frame synchronization system can be applied to asynchronous M-ary/SSMA system when different framing chip pattern is assigned to each user., IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG

  • Performance Analysis of the SS-CSC System using Synchronizing Spreading Code
Toshio Takebayashi; Hiromasa Habuchi; Takaaki Hasegawa, In this paper, the performance of the Spread Spectrum communication Constrained Spreading Code (SS-CSC) system using synchronizing spreading code is discussed. In particular, the bit error rate (BER) and the initial acquisition time are evaluated by theoretical analysis. Moreover, the performance of this system is compared with that of Hi-orthogonal system. Consequently, it is found that the average acquisition time increases and tile BER decreases when increasing E(info)/E(sync). Moreover, the SS-CSC system with the canceller is superior about 5.5[dB] to the system without the canceller when the BER is 10(-6) and E(info)/E(sync) is 0.5. The SS-CSC system using a synchronizing spreading code had better use the canceller in order to reduce E(info)/E(sync). The BER of the SS-CSC system using synchronizing code is the same as that of the Hi-orthogonal system., I E E E

  • A Code Division Multiplex using Manchester Coded Orthogonal Sequences
Hiromasa Habuchi; Takaaki Hasegawa; Yukio Hakura; Misao Haneishi, There has been increasing interest recently in code division multiplex (CDM) systems. The authors reported a CDM system using pseudo‐orthogonal Manchester‐coded M‐sequence pairs. For this CDM system, the effective energy per bit in the received signals is reduced (M + 1)/2M times as much as the transmitted energy per bit. Moreover, the bit error rate (BER) of the 3M‐plex system, which uses the “a‐chip‐shift” multiplex operation alone, does not converge on zero even if Eb/N0 increases. This paper proposes a CDM system using Manchester‐coded orthogonal sequences which consists of an M‐sequence M chip and an additional chip. The proposed 3M‐plex system is a combination of the “a‐chip‐shift” multiplex operation and the amplitude multiplex operation. The proposed systems do not have loss of the effective received signal energy. The BER of the proposed systems converges to zero with increasing Eb/N0. Moreover, the proposed system out performs the Manchester‐coded multilevel transmission system. Copyright © 1992 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., A Wiley Company
