  • 〔Major achievements〕Non-commutative M-branes from open pure spinor supermembrane
Sota Hanazawa; Makoto Sakaguchi, Open supermembrane with a constant three-form flux in the pure spinor formalism is examined. The BRST symmetry of the open supermembrane action leads to non-commutative (NC) M-branes. In addition to the NC M5-brane with a self-dual two-form flux, we find a NC M9-brane with an electric flux and a NC M9-brane with a magnetic flux. The former reduces in the critical electric flux limit to an M2-brane on the M9-brane, while the latter reduces in the strong magnetic flux limit to infinitely many Kaluza–Klein monopoles dissolved into the M9-brane. These NC M-branes are shown to preserve a half of 32 supersymmetries., Elsevier B.V.

  • A note on supersymmetries in AdS 5/CFT 4
Fumiya Takeuchi; Makoto Sakaguchi, The = 4 superconformal algebra is derived from the symmetry transformations of fields in the = 4 SYM action in D = 4. We use a Majorana-Weyl spinor in D = 10 instead of four Weyl spinors in D = 4. This makes it transparent to relate generators of the = 4 superconformal algebra to those of the super-AdS5 ×S5 algebra. Especially, we obtain the concrete map from the supersymmetries Q and conformal supersymmetries S in = 4 SYM to the supersymmetries (1,2) in the AdS5 ×S5 background., World Scientific Publishing Co. • 〔Major achievements〕No pair production of open strings in a plane-wave background
Makoto Sakaguchi; Hyeonjoon Shin; Kentaroh Yoshida, We consider whether an external electric field may cause the pair production of open strings in a type IIA plane-wave background. The boundary states of D-branes with condensates are constructed in the Green-Schwarz formulation of superstring theory with the light-cone gauge. The cylinder diagrams are computed with massive theta functions. Although the value of the electric field is bounded by the upper value, there is no pole in the amplitudes and it indicates that no pair production occurs in the plane-wave background. This result would be universal for a class of plane-wave backgrounds., AMER PHYSICAL SOC

  • 〔Major achievements〕Supersymmetric Extensions of Non-Relativistic Scaling Algebras
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, An exciting subject in string theory is to consider some applications of the AdS/CFT correspondence to realistic systems like condensed matter systems. Since most of such systems are non-relativistic, an anisotropic scaling symmetry with the general value of dynamical critical exponent z plays an important role in constructing the gravity duals for non-relativistic field theories. Supersymmetric extensions of symmetry algebras including the anisotropic scaling are very helpful to consider holographic relations accurately. We give a short summary on the classification of super algebras with the anisotropic scaling as subalgebras of the following Lie superalgebras, psu(2,2 vertical bar 4), osp(8 vertical bar 4) and osp (8*vertical bar 4), which appear in the study of AdS/CFT in type IIB string and M theories. • Semi-classical brane in AdS-spaces
Makoto Sakaguchi, Lead, We briefly review a semi-classical analysis of static branes in AdS spaces. First, fluctuations of a 1/2 BPS F-string in AdS(5) x S-5 whose world-sheet extends along AdS(2) are examined. They are three massive and five massless scalars propagating in AdS(2). It is shown that they can reach the boundary to deform the Wilson line and so result in operator insertions in the Wilson line. We see that there exists SO(3) x SO(5) symmetry in both sides. Second, fluctuations of a D3-brane in AdS(5) x S-5 whose world-volume extends along AdS(2) x S-2 in AdS(5) are examined. They are six massless scalars and a U(1) gauge field propagating in AdS(2) x S-2. The spectrum on AdS2 is derived via a KK-reduction on S-2. Third, fluctuations of an M2-brane in AdS(4) x S-7/Z(k) whose world-volume extends along AdS(2) x S-1 is examined. After a KK-reduction on S-1, it is shown that for k = 1,2 the spectrum degenerates to form eight N = 1 scalar supermultiplets for each mu is an element of Z/2. Among them, sixteen bosonic fluctuations can reach the boundary., PROGRESS THEORETICAL PHYSICS PUBLICATION OFFICE

  • Semiclassical analysis of M2-brane in AdS(4)xS(7)/Z(k)
Makoto Sakaguchi; Hyeonjoon Shin; Kentaroh Yoshida, We start from the classical action describing a single M2-brane on AdS(4)xS(7)/Z(k) and consider semiclassical fluctuaitions around a static, 1/2 BPS configuration whose shape is AdS(2)xS(1). The internal manifold S-7/Z(k) is described as a U(1) fibration over CP3 and the static configuration is wrapped on the U(1) fiber. Then the configuration is reduced to an AdS(2) world-sheet of type IIA string on AdS(4)xCP(3) through the Kaluza-Klein reduction on S-1. It is shown that the fluctuations form an infinite set of N = 1 supermultiplets on AdS(2) for k = 1, 2. The set is invariant under SO(8) which may be consistent with N = 8 supersymmetry on AdS(2). We discuss the behavior of the fluctuations around the boundary of AdS(2) and its relation to deformations of Wilson loop operator., SPRINGER

  • 〔Major achievements〕Super-Galilean conformal algebra in AdS/CFT
Makoto Sakaguchi, Galilean conformal algebra (GCA) is an Inonu-Wigner (IW) contraction of a conformal algebra, while Newton-Hooke string algebra is an IW contraction of an Anti-de Sitter (AdS) algebra, which is the isometry of an AdS space. It is shown that the GCA is a boundary realization of the Newton-Hooke string algebra in the bulk AdS. The string lies along the direction transverse to the boundary, and the worldsheet is AdS(2). The one-dimensional conformal symmetry so(2,1) and rotational symmetry so(d) contained in the GCA are realized as the symmetry on the AdS2 string worldsheet and rotational symmetry in the space transverse to the AdS(2) in AdS(d+2), respectively. It follows from this correspondence that 32 supersymmetric GCAs can be derived as IW contractions of superconformal algebras, psu(2,2 vertical bar 4), osp(8 vertical bar 4), and osp(8*vertical bar 4). We also derive less supersymmetric GCAs from su(2,2 vertical bar 2), osp(4 vertical bar 4), osp(2 vertical bar 4), and osp(8*vertical bar 2). (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. The model admits several different non-relativistic limits and we find that the maximal supersymmetry we construct has 14 components of supercharges, which is a novel example of non-relativistic superconformal algebra in (1 + 2) dimension. • A family of super Schrodinger invariant Chern-Simons matter systems
Yu Nakayama; Shinsei Ryu; Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, We investigate non-relativistic limits of the N=3 Chern-Simons matter system in 1+2 dimensions. The relativistic theory can generate several inequivalent super Schodinger invariant theories, depending on the degrees of freedom we choose to retain in the non-relativistic limit. The maximally supersymmetric Schrodinger invariant theory is obtained by keeping all particle degrees of freedom. The other descendants, where particles and anti-particles coexist, are also Schrodinger invariant but preserve less supersymmetries. Thus, we have a family of super Schrodinger invariant field theories produced from the parent relativistic theory., SPRINGER

  • Spontaneous partial breaking of N=2 supersymmetry and the U(N) gauge model
Kazuhito Fujiwara; Hiroshi Itoyama; Makoto Sakaguchi, We briefly review properties of the N = 2 U(N) gauge model composed of N = 1 superfields. This model can be regarded as a low-energy effective action of A = 2 Yang-Mills theory equipped with electric and magnetic Fayet-Iliopoulos terms. In this model, the N = 2 supersymmetry is spontaneously broken to N = 1, and the Nambu-Goldstone fermion comes from the overall U(1) part of U(N) gauge group. We also give If = 1 supermultiplets appearing in the vacua. In addition, we give a manifestly N = 2 symmetric formulation of the model by employing the unconstrained N = 2 superfields in harmonic superspace. Finally, we study a decoupling limit of the Nambu-Goldstone fermion and identify the origin of the fermionic shift symmetry with the second, spontaneously broken supersymmetry., MATH SOC JAPAN

  • 〔Major achievements〕Super Schrodinger algebra in AdS/CFT
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, We discuss (extended) super-Schrodinger algebras obtained as subalgebras of the superconformal algebra psu(2,2 vertical bar 4). The Schrodinger algebra with two spatial dimensions can be embedded into so(4,2). In the superconformal case the embedded algebra may be enhanced to the so-called super-Schrodinger algebra. In fact, we find an extended super-Schrodinger subalgebra of psu(2,2 vertical bar 4). It contains 24 supercharges (i.e., 3/4 of the original supersymmetries) and the generators of so(6), as well as the generators of the original Schrodinger algebra. In particular, the 24 supercharges come from 16 rigid supersymmetries and half of 16 superconformal ones. Moreover, this superalgebra contains a smaller super-Schrodinger subalgebra, which is a supersymmetric extension of the original Schrodinger algebra and so(6) by eight supercharges (half of 16 rigid supersymmetries). It is still a subalgebra even if there are no so (6) generators. We also discuss super-Schrodinger subalgebras of the superconformal algebras, osp(8 vertical bar 4) and osp(8*vertical bar 4), and find super Schrodinger subalgebras in the same way. • 〔Major achievements〕More super Schrodinger algebras from psu(2,2|4)
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, Lead, We discuss super Schrodinger algebras with less supercharges from N=4 superconformal algebra psu(2, 2 vertical bar 4). Firstly N= 2 and N= 1 superconformal algebras are constructed from the psu(2, 2 vertical bar 4) via projection operators. Then a super Schrodinger subalgebra is found from each of them. The one obtained from N= 2 has 12 supercharges with su(2)(2) x u(1) and the other from N=1 has 6 supercharges with u(1)(3). By construction, those are still subalgebras of psu(2, 2 vertical bar 4). Another super Schrodinger algebra, which preserves 6 supercharges with a single u(1) symmetry, is also obtained from N=1 superconformal algebra su(2, 2 vertical bar 1). In particular, it coincides with the symmetry of N=2 non-relativistic Chern-Simons matter system in three dimensions., SPRINGER

  • Holography of non-relativistic string on AdS(5) x S-5
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, We discuss a holographic dual of a non-relativistic (NR) string on AdS(5) x S-5. The NR string can be regarded as a semiclassical string around an AdS(2) classical solution corresponding to a straight Wilson line in the gauge-theory side. The quadratic action with respect to the fluctuations is composed of free massive and massless scalars, and free massive fermions on the AdS(2) world-sheet. We show that the complete agreement of the spectra between the NR string and a conformal quantum mechanics (CQM). Then we show a holographic relation between normalizable modes of the NR string and wave functions in the CQM. Then it may be argued from this result that an AdS(2)/CFT1 would be realized in AdS(5)/CFT4. We can really discuss a GKPW-type relation by considering non-normalizable modes of the NR string in Euclidean signature. • Non-relativistic string and D-branes on AdS(5) x S**5 from semiclassical approximation
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, Lead, We show that non-relativistic actions of strings and D-branes on AdS(5) x S-5 can be reproduced as a semiclassical approximation of the string and D-brane actions around static 1/2 BPS configurations. This is contrastive to the Penrose limit. For example, the pp-wave string can be recaptured as a semiclassical approximation around a 1/2 BPS particle rotating at the velocity of light. We argue that small deformation of a straight Wilson line would give a composite operator in the gauge-theory side that corresponds to a semiclassical state of the non-relativistic string, according to the semiclassical interpretation., SPRINGER

  • Non-Relativistic AdS Branes and Newton-Hooke Superalgebra
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, Lead, We examine a non-relativistic limit of D-branes in AdS(5) x S-5 and M-branes in AdS(4/7) x S-7/4. First, Newton-Hooke superalgebras for the AdS branes are derived from AdS x S superalgebras as Inonu-Wigner contractions. It is shown that the directions along which the AdS-brane worldvolume extends are restricted by requiring that the isometry on the AdS-brane worldvolume and the Lorentz symmetry in the transverse space naturally extend to the super-isometry. We also derive Newton-Hooke superalgebras for pp-wave branes and show that the directions along which a brane worldvolume extends are restricted. Then the Wess-Zumino terms of the AdS branes are derived by using the Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology on the super-AdS x S algebra, and the non-relativistic limit of the AdS-brane actions is considered. We show that the consistent limit is possible for the following branes: Dp (even, even) for p = 1 mod 4 and Dp (odd, odd) for p = 3 mod 4 in AdS(5) x S-5, and M2 (0,3), M2 (2,1), M5 (1,5) and M5 (3,3) in AdS(4) x S-7 and S-4 x AdS(7). We show that the ground states, which are given by constant solutions of Heun's equation, are identified with BPS states corresponding to the chiral primary operators in the dual quiver gauge theories. The excited states correspond to non-trivial solutions of Henn's equation. It is shown that these reduce to polynomial solutions in the near BPS limit. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. • Supersymmetric U(N) Gauge Model and Partial Breaking of N=2 Supersymmetry
Kazuhito Fujiwara; Hiroshi Itoyama; Makoto Sakaguchi, Corresponding, Guided by the gauging of U(N) isometry, associated with the special Kahler geometry, and the discrete R symmetry, we construct the N = 2 supersymmetric action of a U(N) invariant nonabelian gauge model in which rigid N = 2 supersymmetry is spontaneously broken to N = 1. This generalizes the abelian model considered by Antoniadis, Partouche and Taylor. We shed light on complexity of the supercurrents of our model associated with a broken N = 2 supermultiplet of currents, and discuss the spontaneously broken supersymmetry as an approximate fermionic shift symmetry., PROGRESS THEORETICAL PHYSICS PUBLICATION OFFICE

  • D-branes of Covariant AdS Superstrings
Makoto Sakaguchi; Kentaroh Yoshida, Lead, We consider D-branes of open superstrings in the AdS(5) x S-5 background. The possible configurations of D-branes preserving half of supersymmetries are classified by analyzing the kappa-invariance of an open superstring in a covariant manner. We also revisit the classification of D-branes in the pp-wave background. It is shown that Penrose limits of the possible D-branes in the AdS(5) x S-5 dive all of the D-branes in the pp-wave. In addition, a 1/4 supersymmetric, D-string, which is related to the D-string preserving 8 dynamical supersymmetries in the pp-wave, is presented. We also discuss the relation between our result and the Ads branes in a brane probe analysis. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved., ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV

  • Wess-Zumino term for the AdS superstring and generalized Inonu-Wigner contraction
Machiko Hatsuda; Makoto Sakaguchi, We examine a Wess-Zumino term, written in a form of bilinear in superinvariant currents, for a superstring in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, and derive a procedure for obtaining the correct flat limit. The standard Inonu-Wigner contraction does not give the correct flat limit but, rather, gives zero. This erroneous result originates from the fact that the fermionic metric of the super-Poincare group is degenerate. We propose a generalization of the Inonu-Wigner contraction from which a "nondegenerate" super-Poincare group is derived from the super-AdS group. For this reason, this contraction gives the correct flat limit of this Wess-Zumino term. We also discuss the M-algebra obtained using this generalized Inonu-Wigner contraction from osp(1/32)., PROGRESS THEORETICAL PHYSICS PUBLICATION OFFICE

Machiko Hatsuda; Kiyoshi Kamimura; Makoto Sakaguchi, Corresponding, Maximally supersymmetric spacetime algebras in eleven dimensions, which are the isometry superalgebras of Minkowski space, AdS7 × S4, AdS4 × S7 and pp-wave background, are related by Inönü-Wigner contractions. The super-AdS4(7) × S7(4) algebras allow to introduce two contraction parameters, the one for the flat limit to the super-Poincaré algebra and the other for a Penrose limit to the super-pp-wave algebra. Under these contractions supersymmetries are maintained because the Jacobi identity of three supercharges holds for any values of contraction parameters. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. • IIB-Branes and New Spacetime Superalgebras
Makoto Sakaguchi, Lead, We provide a classification of the IIB Dp- and NSp-branes in which the brane action exists due to a non-trivial class of the Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology of free differential algebras. We then present a new geometric formulation of the IIB Dp- and NSp-branes (p less than or equal to 5) in which the manifestly superinvariant Wess-Zumino terms are constructed in terms of the supersymmetric currents. The supercurrents are obtained by using supergroup manifolds corresponding to the IIB-brane superalgebra, which is characterized by the generators of D3-, D5-, NS5- and KK5-branes in addition to the previously introduced generators of supertranslations, F- and D-strings. The charges of D1-, F1- and D3-branes are related to those of the M-algebra, but some charges of D5- and NS5-branes are not. The S-duality of the type-IIB theory is realized as transformations of the supercurrents generalizing the SO(2) R-symmetry of the superalgebra. We thus find that the superalgebra is lifted into twelve-dimensions with signature (11,1)., SPRINGER

  • BPS states carrying fermionic brane charges
Machiko Hatsuda; Makoto Sakaguchi, The Green-Siegel central extension of superalgebras for BPS branes is studied. In these cases commutators of usual bosonic brane charges only with the broken supersymmetry charges allow this central extension. We present an interpretation of these fermionic central charges as fermionic brane charges, and show that they take nonzero values for a nontrivial fermionic boundary condition. Such fermionic coordinates solutions are determined by equations of motion in a suitable gauge condition which manifests Nambu-Goldstone fermionic modes as well as bosonic modes in the static gauge. We also show that some modes of dilatino fields couple with the fermionic brane currents. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V., Elsevier

  • Type-II Superstrings and New Spacetime Superalgebras
    M. Sakaguchi, Lead, We present a geometric formulation of type-IIA and -IIB superstring theories in which the Wess-Zumino term is second order in the supersymmetric currents. The currents are constructed using supergroup manifolds corresponding to superalgebras: the type-IIA superalgebra derived from M algebra and the type-IIB superalgebra obtained by a T-duality transformation of the type-IIA superalgebra. We find that a slight modification of the type-IIB superalgebra is needed to describe D-string theories, in which the U(1) gauge field on the world sheet is explicitly constructed in terms of D-string charges. A unification of the superalgebras in a (Formula presented)-dimensional (Formula presented) superalgebra is discussed too. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

  • (0,2) Calabi-Yau sigma models and their duality
Makoto Sakaguchi, Lead, N = (0, 2) heterotic string theories on Calabi-Yau spaces are considered based on linear sigma approaches. We construct (0,2) sigma models on complete intersection Calabi-Yau spaces, M, realized in a product of weighted projective spaces. The definition of the associating vector bundle V over M is given. These models are formulated as the IR limits of (0,2) U(1)(N) gauged linear sigma models. Examining their phase structures, we observe that there are hybrid phases where one cannot intrinsically distinguish between the defining polynomials of the Calabi-Yau space M and those of the gauge bundle V. Thus we construct dual pairs of two (0,2) Calabi-Yau sigma models which are isomorphic in their hybrid phases. In addition, generalizing the gauge bundle into the direct sum of bundles, we study the duality of (0,2) string vacua., WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD

  • Four-Dimensional N=2(4) Superstring Backgrounds and The Real Heavens
Makoto SAKAGUCHI, Lead, We study N = 2 superstring backgrounds which are four-dimensional, non-Kahlerian and contain nontrivial dilaton and torsion fields. In particular we consider the case where the backgrounds possess at least one U(1) isometry and are characterized by the continual Toda equation and the Laplace equation. We obtain a string background associated with a nontrivial solution of the continual Toda equation, which is mapped, under the T duality transformation, to the Taub-NUT instanton background. It is shown that the integrable property of the non-Kahlerian spaces has a direct origin in the real heavens: real, self-dual, Euclidean, Einstein spaces. The Laplace equation and the continual Toda equation imposed on quasi-Kahler geometry for consistent string propagation are related to the self-duality conditions of the real heavens with ''translational'' and ''rotational'' Killing symmetry respectively., WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD

  • A Universal w String Theory
Hiroshi Kunitomo; Makoto Sakaguchi; Akira Tokura, It has been shown that there is a sequential embedding structure in a omega(N) string theory based on a linearized W-N algebra. The omega(N) string theory is obtained as a special realization of the omega(N+1) string. The omega(infinity) string theory is a universal string theory in this sense. We have also shown that there is a similar sequence for N = 1 string theory. The N = 1 omega(N) string can be given as a special case of the N = 1 omega(N+1) string. In addition, we show that the omega(3) string theory is obtained as a special realization of the N = 1 omega(3) string. We conjecture that the omega(N) string can be obtained as a special N = 1 omega(N) string for general omega(N). If this is the case, the N = 1 omega(infinity) string theory is more universal since it includes both N = 0 and N = 1 omega(N) string theories., WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD
